The comedian who invented the “sledge-o-matic. A sledge hammer that he used in his shows to bust fruit usually a watermelon. The North Carolina native of immigrant parents grew up in Ohio. He attended the University of South Flordia after his family moved to Flordia & has a degree in chemical engineering. After school he got hooked up with country music/comedy entertainer Jim Stafford as his road manager. The two ended up in California where Gallagher decided to part ways with Stafford & go it alone. Gallagher (Leo Anthony Gallagher jr) now 73 is still performing his act & traveling the country.

Saw his act back in the 80's. Took my rain poncho and goggles and had a blast!!!
I couldn't function for 2-3 days, still laughing about his act. Grocery shopping was never quite the same for a long time after that. Thanks for posting this Bob!! Good times......lol

I’m not sure of the year but I saw Gallagher at a “theater in the round” downtown Chicago. What I remember is him coming into the theater on roller skates going around the stage through the audience to start the show. What ever he was doing had the crowd going nuts. He did the whole show on those skates. The laughing never stopped and luckily we were not close enough to get splattered by the sledge-o-matic. There were plenty of folks who did because his act was brand new. And I agree the laugher lasted many days. Thanks for rekindling that great moment/memories. haywire

Good ,,he is alive and well. Tired of hearing of the ones that have passed.
Good news for a change.

Jim Stafford is on a rerun of a Johnny Carson show with Jackie Gleason tonight. What a coincidence. Jim started his set with a synthesized guitar he said was a cross between a M-16 and guitar.

Jim Stafford was a funny guy in the 70’s & early 80’s. Then he kinda dropped off the scene. I need to look him up & see what he’s up to these days.

Too funny, I used a Gallagher reference in the office a while back... gave the youngsters something to google. Two people got the reference though.

Maybe we should start a thread "Alive and Well!" for well known people we haven't heard from lately. They may just be retired and enjoying their C body!!!
