FK5 Dodge resurrection

Waiting on parts to arrive to get the wagon ready for carlisle...so I busted out the wire wheel on my grinder and started searching the trunk for the rot that was so bad the car had to be parted...still havent found it...sure it's got some pitting and a few small pinholes...ITS 50 YEARS OLD. Overall I am pleased to have this trunk floor.

More digging. I think the passenger quarter is the worst panel on the car. That's why I picked it to start with. Should be the only one that needs to go down to bare metal for repairs. At somepoint it had the old "cave and pave" filler job done.

The lower quarter and extension will need some patching from the batteries that were found leaking away in there by a previous owner, Scott. Probably the last person that really cared about the car before I got it.

I stayed at the shop very late last night. Everything from the green donor will be cleaned up and put onto the 70. Hopefully I end up with another scruffy running car.

Green car has the engine out. That's where I stopped as far as dismantling.

The FK5 needs some bodywork/prepping before I can allow myself to start reassembly. I am tackling the rear window channels minimal rot now.

I got some POR15 and this Metal 2 Metal filler. I will be patching the larger holes and smoothing it out with the metal filler. Not sure how long it will last. Hopefully another 45-50 years or so.

I made one little patch and roughed it in. Need to bring my welding hood back to the shop so I can see what I'm doing.

I also tried some of the filler in one spot with a considerable hole and some pitting.
Before spreading the filler, I brushed 2 coats of por15 onto the wire wheeled metal in the channel "test area". When it started to get tacky I applied the filler. Seems to have worked so far.

More tonight...

Looks great! Gotta love having room to work (I don't). Metal to metal is great stuff, it's essentially the same as plastic filler, substitute aluminum powder for talc and perhaps a bit more epoxy? Always apply low and finish with regular filler/finishing putty. You practically have to chisel it off, even after years.

A little more patching, welding, and grinding. The rust holes are history. Some of that metal filler to smooth it all out and fill any pinholes. After that, I can move on to the one spot the a pillar needs repaired and this one is ready for glass!

I sat in the drivers seat for the first time tonight...well...the first time in this car.

The green car has been a great donor. Gonna keep pushing forward until I have an ugly duckling...

I was going to work on the Convertible today, but decided the FK5 comes first as others have DEMANDED.

I dug the 440 from the green donor out with thoughts of just shoving it in. But it was far too filthy for me to feel okay just putting it in, so I stripped it down somewhat. NOT digging in too far as it was a running motor when pulled.

Threw it in the bed of the Ram and stopped at o'Reilly and grabbed a few cans of degreaser and headed over to the self serve car wash and blasted away.

Happy with the results, I took it back to the shop and will be separating the trans from the motor to get it on a stand to pull/clean the oil pan and pickup tube in the next few days.

A few pics of where the car is currently.

71 Dash is in
Front seats are in
Doors are on
Back glass is set in
All odds and ends for the car are inside and waiting for installation.

I wish I had the matching interior to give it...but black 71 stuff will have to do.

I have sourced an entire donor...but need to figure that out, probably come spring time maybe.

Thanks I'll keep updating as I go along.

Is "Big O" gonna be ready for Carlisle this year? Looks like you're making great progress, keep up the good work!
