The paint and woodgrain are probably better now than when car was on the lot when new. Nice job all around.

Just wait until all the trim work is back in place, amazing how the little things bring it all together. Just throw a sleeping bag in the back and have a pot of coffee ready in the garage, you'll have it done in no time.

So it is adhesive backed. I have seen some "wraps" done with very thin material held in place strictly by static electricity, which I imagine do not hold up well. Did they clearcoat it after installing like the factory did?

No, there is no clear coat...it is standalone construction.
In simple terms, it’s a glorified, super tough version of the sheeting your grandma used to put in the kitchen cabinets under the coffee cups, cans of green beans, and juice glasses in the 1970’s. Think: shelving paper.

Cleaning stuff tonight. I like doing this as much as any aspect of the hobby. Cleaning up grungy stuff and making it look nice. One on the left has been cleaned. One on the right has not. Front fender lower trim.

The beauty of a wrap is, if a person didn’t want to spend a lot of money on buffing the paint out which they know is going to get covered up, they can do that. I on the other hand was picky with the paint because I wasn’t sure if the wrap was going to work out or not. But now that I have blazed a trail... someone else with a 72-73 Monaco...with mediocre upper side and tailgate paint...could cover that meh stuff up with a lovely wrap. You could buff out any faded but otherwise halfway decent original paint on hood and roof and do a new wood wrap on the sides for not too much and have a reasonably good looking daily driver.

Looking for a “new” rear tailgate glass seal, if anyone knows a source. The seal I had was/is shot/rotten. I tried to go to Steele Rubber Products in Denver, NC but they said the original had been a mold-tooled item and not just a simple extrusion, and a new tool would be crazy expensive to reproduce. You can see this in previous slides of this thread. I think I tried Precision also, but they had nothing to offer. What I cobbled together from some materials I got from Steele is better than nothing, but it lacks a good overhanging seal around the top lip of the glass when closed. Water still has the potential to get in.

Yeah,I remembered the Moulding part when I saw you replied. A molded vs extruded seal is a different animal,wish you the best in finding one!
