66 Sport Fury-From The Beginning

Still working towards getting ready for bodywork/paint in March. The outer fender wells on the vert are pretty much bent all to heck so I salvaged these from the VIP. They're covered with what looks like an asphalt sprayed on undercoating so I broke out the bottle torch and a margin trowel and got them cleaned up. After scraping all the built up asphalt off I did a test area with mineral spirits and it looks like they're gonna clean up pretty good.

Tomorrow I'll be heading out early to Leon's Pick & Pay. Rumor has it they have several Furys and I'm hoping to secure the last 5 pieces of trim needed for the restorer in Michigan. Updates will follow.

Wish I knew before now that you were going to Leon's. I would go with you. Need a good hood for a 70-72 Dart, and maybe luggage rack parts for a 67-70 B body wagon. I think you need to get there very early and you'll be locked in during lunch. If you don't find what you need at Leon's, Fredricksburg Auto Salvage is a good second stop.

And this guy on Craigslist in Connecticut is still advertising parts. https://newlondon.craigslist.org/pts/d/1966-plymouth-sport-fury-parts-nos-and/7081301422.html

To follow up- Absolutely zero Sport Furys at Leon's.
There were many other models in the 66 range and I managed to find a couple items I needed.
Still needing the hood trim and the lower passenger side trim for the front fender and the door.

Good morning Clay here is a pic of what I have. Looks like I have the side trim for the front fender and the two wider trim strips for the door, one is the top front and the other is the bottom front.

Sorry to hear you struck out at Leon's. I know there was a brush fire several years ago that took out alot of cars in one of the Mopar sections along the back of the 100 acre salvage yard. Let me know if you're planning a trip to Fredricksburg Auto Salvage. I need to make a trip down there.

Jim I did see some other stuff I'll need to return for but for now I'm focused on Getting ready for JB.

The preparation continues. Looks like the younger and more limber guys are gonna show up this Saturday for some of SWMBO's famous biscuits and gravy and we are gonna remove the motor, tranny, exhaust and the convertible pump parts and she'll be ready for paint!!! Now I'm getting excited haha......

We're also gonna remove the back bumper from the VIP parts car and Rollback Dude is hauling the shell off to the crusher. Then we'll have room for the vert parts car to come in.

Luring my nephew and step son in law up with the promise of a big breakfast and beer did the trick! They even brought a friend and we went to work.... A guy (Thomas) who lives in the neighborhood and is working on a 68 dodge came buy to pick up the seats from the parts VIP and he even hung around and lent a hand!
We managed to get the engine, tranny, exhaust and the remainder of the misc. interior stuff removed today.
I also checked in with body/paint guy and he says one or two more weeks and he'll be ready for the car. All in all a good day.
