Greetings everyone
Reading what I can here while searching this site ,it seems SMS is the go to place if I wanted original type material for the top on my New Yorker.
I'm a bit worried though when I read about the wait and pricing from them.

I'm not a total slave to originality, so has anyone found a alternative supplier that sells material that is close to what my New Yorker came with?

Taking the car cover off my New Yorker today shows how getting the top replaced and the rust underneath repaired has now become a top (no pun intended) priority

As there might be "paint work" involved, might consider getting the metal underneath the top fixed and painted too, for good measure and a possible lessening of any future problems?

Just some thoughts,

I have a 77 New Yorker and have the same issues, so I’ll certainly follow your progress. I see in one of your pictures that you will need backseat material as well. Maybe consider ordering that at the same time is the top Material.. just say’en

When I last needed vinyl, my local shop had a dozen binders full of readily available patterns.
There's so many patterns available out there even Stevie Wonder could find one that's close enough.

Mine is ripped worse than yours in those same lower areas. Anyone know the cost on the tops if they make them . I may be interested in one in green. My seats are the same cream colored white and starting to come apart at some of the stitching.

I’m not a Green Fan, but that's a sweet Formal. Did you just add the white walls?

I have a call out to a local vinyl /upholstery shop here. I'll report back on what the estimate is.

Thanks. Yes, just bought 5 new tires this week. Fresh tune up and some new dual exhaust next. Man, that is going to be a lot pipe...

Agreed, it’s going to take several sticks of 2 1/4 to fill the underside of that big girl. I had my 75 NYB done about a year ago. In fact I’m heading out tomorrow to have duals put on my 77 NYB. Let me know how yours turn out. Take plenty of pictures to post. LOL

As to the white walls, I thought that was yours we were discussing sometime back with the black walls. The white walls are a MUCH!!! better choice. Very sharp

God i love that Newport coupe. That,s more of a brighter forest green than than the pickle green alot of cars were painted. And the interior looks like it may be stunning.Put more pics online! B.B

It's a 74 NY Coupe. Note the glorious lower body bright trim.

Its been awhile but I did find a place that was interested in replacing the vinyl top on my 78 NYB.

Small shop with an older gentleman that seemed to know his stuff. My mention of SMS for replacement material had him wincing because of his past experiences with them.

Anyway he went through some order books he had and came up with material that was so close in texture and color to what was original I was pleased.
He said it was actually material for some years of Ford cars.

So all said and done it was good faith quoted out around $2800 including what he thought the local body shop would charge to repair the rust underneath.
Its about what I thought as far as cost ,though a bit higher

Keep us posted.. take before / during and after repair pics if you can to share. We / I’d love to see the progress..

I'd love to get my hands on a set of the Aluminum lower trim on the NYB '74's and '75's.
