Looking for input on where to find the copper piece at the bottom of the steering column. Not sure what it’s called and not certain how important it is however, as we are replacing the gear box we noticed it was broken. Any insight is appreciated.

Hi Brent,

Without seeing it, I am assuming it is the ground contact for the horn. I found that on my 64 recently as well. Here is a post from FABO, but it still pertains to our C bodies (note Post #10):

horn issue

I believe it is needed to complete the horn circuit for a stock steering wheel/horn setup.

Thank you your help. I am sending a couple of picture ( which I should have done to start). I think this is different from the horn. Thoughts...

It is Absolutely for the horn to function. Nothing else. Make one, nobody will see it as everything is enclosed on these cars.

Holy cow! That is an awesome diagram and makes sense from all the posts. The copper piece only goes down one side so...soldering the copper piece should work. Thank you all for the help. What an awesome group.
It has to go thru the rubber to touch the inside of the shaft, to compete the ground circuit.
