Check this bad boy out! Another F3 added to the roster. A 2379 Rio Grande from ‘57-‘58!

These ones seem to usually command a heftier price. Was surprised what I got it for. Was an eBay buy with a BIN. It was advertised as “untested”. Usually is key words for “doesn’t work”. However to my surprise, she runs great! Nice and crisp!

Paint is a little beat up and dry on the front corner of the A unit. Shows signs of being packed away for a long time. Lots of paint wear around the edges from a box/wrapping paper.

Still has its original battery door, and she is a original! Has the stamping imperfection in the roof.

I’ll give her a bath and a service this weekend. Might be a candidate for the A/C Commander mentioned above!

We haven’t been completely banished yet. Luckily work is still chugging right along. The commute has been a bit better with the schools and some workers out. Fingers crossed this is the worst it gets around here.

This engine turned out to be even more of a little sweetheart than the 2245 was. Gave her a lube job earlier today, and anticipated a little more work/cleaning, but she is brand new under the shell! Horn is the best working horn I’ve got so far.

Either someone serviced her before being packed away, or she had barely any run time. Pick up rollers show some use, but the brushes are brand new! And wiring looks original. I left all I could untouched as she’s such a great runner.

I think she was bought new, used a couple times, and then stored away. Would describe all the box rub marks in the paint. The pick up roller brackets have some surface rusting, but she came from southern FL. Figure the humidity got to em.

Another new comer to the engine roster today. An old 681 turbine.

Nice little engine!! Admittedly I’m not the biggest postwar steam engine fan. They just don’t do it for me as much as the big colorful diesels. The steam engines are bland and small sitting next to them.

My 2055 was my first introduction to postwar steam. It’s so loud and crude compared to the diesels. If I had experienced this 681 first off, opinions may have changed lol.

One day I’ll add the mighty 773 from 1950 to the collection. May have to take out a loan though! Lmao

I have a 681 also, here's some words of advice. If you ever have to take of the linkage off the wheels or do truck repair, pay strict attention on what your doing. I had a hell of a time getting the wheels back in sync to where the linkage didn't bind up with the wheel. Good Luck with a 773, on my list too but never seeing it happen.

Ive been following this thread for awhile love all the old trains and the great videos. I am a die hard Postwar Lionel collector but unfortunately I don't have the space to keep a layout up permanently so it usually just comes out at Christmas. This was a video of the 2011 edition, I don't get all the trains I have to fit on the layout but always put on the big steamers like the 681,746 and 736. For diesel power I always have my Sante Fe 2343, 2356 Southern and NYC. I've also have had a 1950 773 and the 2373 Canadian Pacific AAs on my list but the prices are really up there on both

Good to know! I was hemming and hawing over removing the rods while polishing them. Glad I kept them in place.

I’m quite envious of quite a few of your pieces! Should definitely get another video uploaded this year, if you get it up again. Watched your video from 2010 as well. Love it!

A 2373 Canadian pacific would be great to have as well, but I kinda gave up hope on that one. That may require a second mortgage lol. Might settle for a PWC series one of those.

The 773’s command some money, but atleast they are almost do able when compared to New engine pricing these days.

The one I’ve been itching for lately but keeps eluding me is a 2242 New Haven. I’ve come across a couple, but haven’t had the right circumstances to get one yet. There’s currently one on eBay, but the price is too high.... made an offer, but the seller didn’t want to budge. Wait for another to pop up...

I appreciate the compliment. The last time I had the full platform up was Christmas 2015, the past 2 years I didn't put anything up due to some home remodeling and a new German Shepard pup that has destructive behaviors that he's finally starting to grow out of. Before that I had a smaller layout up that was just my dad's trains and scenery that I had brought up from his attic to go through and do repairs. It was his trains at Christmas time that got me and my brother into the hobby I live in Pa. wish makes it easy to hit the big York train show twice a year which I find lots of good deals. I've managed to assemble or buy around 50 Postwar sets. With the exception of the 773, I have all the bigger steam engines and dual motor diesels except the Canadian. The 2242 New Haven on my buy list too, it and the 2245 Texas Special while single motors are great looking engines. None of what I own is pristine shelf queens I buy them to run and to tinker with, for me most of the fun is in building the layout and resurrecting a tired treasure I find at a show. Kind of do the same thing with cars

I had a post war layout when I was a kid, 681 6-8-6 Loco and about 10 cars I sold it for $20 when I was 19. I still regret it!
Now it's my Monaco, an FJ1200 Yamaha and an IT490 that takes up the spare change.

Engines. A 2020 and 671 turbine. I’m only missing one turbine from my collection now lol.

The EP5 is pretty rough unfortunately. The plastic body did not fair well. Also a lot of Jerry rigged repairs. I’ll try and get her running. May have to get a replacement shell for it.
