I am in the process of restoring my 1965 Sport Fury which I was promised would be finished by September 1st but shame on me, I didn’t ask what year! Having said that, I bought a 66 GTO to satisfy my state of depression not having my 65. I received the GTO today and the car is in very, very good condition with only one small problem (I inspected the car before purchasing), the passenger sun visor will fell off and will not stay attached. I “shopped” the bracket on line but none of the brackets look like the one in the car. I also explored the GTO Forum but they obviously don’t have the same passion as the Mopar crowd. If there is anyone on the Forum that might have familiarity with the GTO and might and has knowledge of this issue, share information, it would be appreciated. I have attached pictures of the both brackets but can determine if it is the visor or the pin in the convertible?

I'll chime in only to recommend a forum that is all things Pontiac and they are plenty passionate.

PY Online Forums - Bringing the Pontiac Hobby Together

Sorry I couldn't be of much assistance. i've owned a '64 hardtop for 20 years but hardtops have a much different sunvisor mount. The folks in the tech forum should be able to assist quickly and Max Performance is a Pontiac reproduction parts company. You can also try Ames Performance and Original Parts Group; both supply reproduction parts for Pontiacs.

That body is one of the BEST GTOs ever, to me. Lots of off-idle torque from that long-rod Pontiac V-8, plus 6qt oil changes. Neat styling and very nice interior things, too. PLUS the handling of the rear sway bar suspension. DeLorean did well back then. You could have done much worse for a "fill-in" vehicle!

That "tiger growl" comes from the fact that Pontiac V-8 heads don't flow as well as others do. Which means longer duration cams to help make-up the difference, just as Buick did with their Nailhead 401s in '59, until customers complained about the "rough idle".

Enjoy!

It looks like the small round button thingie is sheared off from the post. Does that screw in or is it pressed?
Post on the convertible bracket sheared and can’t tell how it was attached. Suppose I could take the driver’s side off but why double my problem. When the visor fell off, no loose parts on the floor????

Make a post on Performance years in the tech section. Someone will answer your question within a day or two. The site is pretty slow compared to the mopar sites but there are some really knowledgeable folks on the performance years site.
I use it, I have a 67 Lemans, 69 grand prix, 66 2+2 and a 98 trans am ram air.
