Found this 318 stuffed in a old camper. Looks pretty clean to me.

It does look very clean. I've often wondered why people paint right over spark plugs and rubber hoses though. I'm far from a perfectionist, but that just seems extra lazy or sloppy to me.
Either way, its an easy fix if it checks out good.

I will put old spark plugs in the holes and paint over them to keep the paint out and the threads clean.

Painted spark plug bases/insulators? When the engines were painted at the engine factory, those items were installed, so they got some paint on them. Not particularly sloppy, just duplicating what happened at the factory? IF that matters.

Enjoy!

And when you see how beefy the main webs are, compared ot a small block Chevy, their beauty if more than "skin deep"!

Enjoy!

Waz not comparing them to any Bow Tie on the planet. My thinking waz that compared to an RB engine LS iz short for Lazy. And back in the '70s I got so good at replacing timing chain and gearz in my B250s I could pull the whole grill do the swap with the good stuff and back together with the cover properly sealed in less then 3 hourz, DONE. This is the motor I was talking about in my other thread. I know it is definitely a poly. On these old motors is there numbers that say anything special about them or are they all the same?

I'm sure that they have valid meaning but it's not commonly documented

Here is what I found on theMopar Engine guide site.

2268341 – 1962-1967, 318 LA-series small-block, 1.84/1.56 valves
It looks like you have these heads from the one photo you posted.
I think there's a mistake made with including all LA engines back to 62.
The Poly is an A block engine
