I'm sick of hearing the greybeards praise cast iron manifolds that cork the exhaust. They don't work for me. I'm running angle plug heads and manifolds burn the plug wires.

Besides that, I'm dropping a 543 inch stroker in my 72 Imperial. It's finally getting the torque it deserves. :D

When I was sticking with a 440 I wanted the Hedman mid length headers that people like. Now, their 1-3/4" primaries and 2-1/2" collectors are going to be a wee bit small.

TTI is the next option but they angle the collectors inward and have a disturbingly tight pinch to get the pipes through the crossmember. That's got to kill flow. Still, they're 1-7/8" tubes with 3" exhaust.

Are there other options out there that fit a column shift fuselage body?

Nobody makes headers for C bodies- especially an Imperial. Since you're serious about your build (and a 543 sounds serious) then weld your own.

Only way that it will be right. Anything else is an exercise in hammering a part not made for your car.

I never understood that. Why go through the trouble to design headers for a specific chassis and then do that? I believe all of the C body chassis have the same crossmember cut-out placement. It would have been simple enough to have angled things outward. I have their headers for a 65 Fury and I am going to make a custom trans mount with exhaust cutouts to match those headers. Seems easier than cutting up an expensive set of pipes.

Yes. There is a huge difference.

I will be very curious what you come up with and look forward to your results.

Talk to some racers in your area and find a custom header builder, can probably do the exhaust as well. Best bet beyond building your own. Not cheap but neither are TTIs and they won’t fit your car right anyway.

For that matter, you can buy the universal u-bend kit. Then cut and fit and weld. Takes time, but then you'll know what's there and it will be YOURS. Using some common pieces to make a jig saw puzzle work, basically. After you get the knack for it, not quite as scary as it might seem initially, by observation. Main thing is to have a vision of where things need to go and then make it happen.

Enjoy!

A friend of mine did exactly that when he jammed a 351 Cleveland in his 65 Mustang.

I did that with the first version of my twin turbo 440 in the 65 Belvedere. It was a PITA and I really don't care to do that again. Besides, building the headers will take me just as long as the rest of the build and I've got other things that demand my time.
I'm a single man working 10 hour days 5-6 days a week and running my home based machine shop in the evenings. There's no time for header building if I want this thing running by Spring 2021.

The plot thickens,,,looking forward to your result.

Could be for sure,,good luck to you.

You don't have to.go under the car.

Which is a Cbody chassis is it not?

Tti's listing shows from 65-73.

There are fitment concerns and solutions listed in the footnotes so check those carefully to see if any apply.

A friend of mine has their complete system from headers to the back bumper on his 66 383 Fury and it all came out of the box and bolted on with zero drama.

I say this because if you look at the stub frames, I, personally, can see how the exhaust plumbing would need different tweeks and adjustments.
No personal experience but I read a book once...

Can you spot what I don't like about TTI exhaust?

Not ideal I realize but in order for the tubes to clear the torsion bars and put the collector straight on to the relief in the crossmember, the header winds up with less ground clearance. I've never heard any complaints about lack of ground clearance with Tti headers.

I suspect their 3" exhaust system would mitigate that S bend.

Kevin

I don't see it as worse than using a donut tight radius bend in a turbo system.
