So I have been tracking the (lack) of available options for getting a dual booster in my 66 300 for a few years now. I know the available feed lot of rebuildable units is near zero.

Previous C-Bodies Discussion Thread

This previous (2017) conversation on the "replacement" dual diaphragm units found on ebay seemed to be moving in a positive direction but just sort of dropped off.

I found this booster on ebay. The same generic unit sold for some time on ebay.

Pirate Jack Replacement Booster

$232 is a reasonable price for a booster and MC. I am not able to spend the $800+ I have seen original units go for.

Does anyone have experience with these and have installed them into a 66 with solid rod column shift transmission?

Thank you!

Following ...

I have heard that they're not as big as the C body versions, and hence may bolt in but not provide enough boost??? I don't know...

The 8" booster is a B-Body booster. Pretty sure this unit is also a repop made in China. The correct Bendix unit is a 9" Booster used on disc brake C-Body cars '65-'67. The Imperials '63-'66(Partial) used the same unit with drum brakes.

There is another one that is more "Mopar" original looking that also claims to be easily installable.

1966-70 Mopar OE Bendix Style 8" Dual Power Brake Booster for Mopar B Bodies

This is about the same price as the other more generic version I posted earlier.

Again, not sure this would fit a 65-66 that has the solid rod column transmission shift, which seems to get in the way of just about everything.

That is a great catch, and very good point. With that being noted, I would envision that a dual 8" booster would still provide more assist than a single 9" that I have now, although obviously not as much as a dual 9".

Would it be enough? Is there another dual 9" booster I am missing somewhere?

If you read the description, no where does it mention "C" body, just A,B, & E. I don't think it will work and I wouldn't use it! I'm using a dual diaphragm on a 66-300, mine is from NAPA. It's a ARI Remaned unit, part # 17-77312 that doesn't come up. I paid $128 for it back in Mar. 2005.
Either follow up with your local NAPA, or start diggin through all this. It's the best lead you'll get from me! Good Luck

There are issues: The 8" booster is China Crap and it is a smaller unit. It will probably still stop the car, not as well as the correct booster. You will most likely run into problems with the operating rod to pedal set up on the B-Body unit as it is different than the C-Body unit There is about a 25% difference in braking power on the 9" single vs the 9" dual Bendix units. Not sure what the difference is between 8" dual vs 9" single or 9" dual. You are correct that the later large diameter single diaphragm units won't fit your '66, these later units usually hit the shift linkage or the 440 valve cover.

G'Day,
Please don't take this as Criticism!
BUT it would be Sooo Helpful if you Fellas could throw in a Few Piccies of the Different Boosters you are Discussing.
Us Poor Old Aussies Have had a Conglomeration of Different Boosters supplied with our "Phoenix's" through the Years.
The Earlier Models up to 66 had the VH40 Boosters & then 67-68 had what appears to be very similar to the U.S. Booster M/Cyl Combination.
All were Drum Brakes up till 1969.
We've Had Bolt Together & Twist Together on the Disc Brake Models. But over the Years I have seen Three or Four Different Types of Boosters on our Aussie DB Cars.
As you may Imagine it makes it Extremely Difficult to Figure what can be used for a "Correct" Replacement.
No Point in having a Half Strength Booster.
I'm in the Process of re-building a 69 BB Sedan that was "Written off" (Insurance Terminology & Family "Wish" as they felt the Elderly Owner was getting too C-Nile to Drive)
Admittedly the Old Boy was Getting on, But I figure at that Age you may as well Enjoy Something.
( Engine mounts were "Chained" so I figure he WAS Enjoying Himself!)
Now the Car was in Storage for 10 Years, ( He couldn't bear to Part with it & I had to Promise to Do My Very best to Put it Back on the Road before he'd sell to me, Not use it for Parts.)
It took me Four Years to find a Panel Beater who was prepared to spend the time on the Car & then only on Weekends as a Side Job. (It's just too easy for them to make money fixing a Modern car + quick turn over. Our old things take Skill & Patience Not just Bolt off / Bolt On).
Anyway (I tend to Ramble on, Apologies) After 14 yrs of not being used, It is my Intention to have the M/Cyl Sleeved in Stainless Steel & I'm considering having the Booster rebuilt (Not much point in rebuilding the Car only to have the Brakes Fail at a Critical Moment. Nobody wants a Honda Zot as a Bonnet Mascot)
Anyway I have Rambled Enough, But in Future if Possible put in some Pics Please.
(Have included a couple of Pics of the Car. Doesn't look all that Bad But the Body was twisted & needed to be Racked.
Also having the Back Window Rust repaired while he's at it)

is the 1968 chrysler power brake setup applicable?

I am pretty sure that the '68-early'71 Bendix unit has a different flange mount. It could be made to work if one did not mind drilling some extra holes in the pedal mount.

While there may be aftermarket boosters that fit and do the job, these as far as I know are what the cars came with from the factory. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Mr. Wooldridge,
Your Kindness to us old Geriatrics is MUCH Appreciated!
May the Bird of Paradise fly up your Nose & may the Wombats tickle your Toes as they wander Past.
It appears that I might have a couple of After Market Items in my Collection. (10 inch with a Screw type Clamp Band holding the two Halves together)
I Have a couple of the Bendix Dual Diaphragms on the Shelf, does anyone know if Kits are available?
TIA, Tony.M

The kits are available, but they cost almost as much for the kit as it does to have the unit rebuilt. The only thing you might save is the shipping costs. I send mine to

I went through this on the 300 I just sold. The mounting of the "B" body unit is way different than your 300, I would not recommend it. The 1970 and up booster is way to large, your shift linkage will hit, and you will not be able to use "2" or "1". I say find the correct unit, brakes are one place you do not want to mess up.

The aftermarket stuff seems to kinda work, and there are guys that have had some success, but for every success story, there seems to be a failure or two. IMHO, the guys that make it work are usually capable (and think nothing of) making the right mods to make things work or starting over again with different parts, but you really can't go wrong with the parts that were designed and built for the car.... That seems to run across a lot of the generic aftermarket parts, but that's another story.

@GranTorinoSport , Booster Dewey is just a couple hours away from you in Portland. It would be worth a phone call and maybe they can give you some guidance.

I have a '67 C-body Bendix booster out of the car & can take pics if anyone is interested. It was leaking by and I replaced it with one of the last rebuilt units from Rockauto. The Rockauto one was actually a later '68 which I found to be the same as '67 with the exception of the check valve. The '67 has a twist-on valve with gasket whereas the '68 has a push-in style with rubber grommet. By coincidence I also have a '70 B-body with original Bendix booster in my garage right now. My plan is to remove my '70 B-body unit this winter & send both B & C units to Booster Dewey for rebuild. I will then sell the Rockauto one but that will be sometime next summer. When I get my B-body one out I can take side-by-side pics.

Thank you. I did not know he was that close! Once antifa stops burning Portland down I’ll have to visit Dewey and see what he has to help me.

It's been a few years since I did mine but I just bought a 67 master cylinder from my local parts store. It bolted right on to the stock diaphragm. Works fine.
