Follow-Up: We installed the new rag joint/Steering Coupler and it does steer quite a bit better, the forums here helped a lot so thank you on that, BUT.....
There's still some play in the wheel and it makes me wonder if the Steering Gear Box (with the adjuster on it) could be going bad and how...
Thank you, I did order one from Rock Auto, I should get that this week. The heat shield looks like it will have to be home-made at this point as I can't find that anywhere, used or new. I have
seen pictures of one so I should be able to get a pattern/shape from those when the new joint comes.
Thanks for replys. The rag joint/steering coupler looks like you may be right. I know the 6 pack picture shot is small so I'll put two larger ones here. Is the Lares 220 the part we're looking at?
Oh, and would the one at RockAuto require a heat shield separate?
I have a bit too much play in my steering so I was going to adjust it and take some out. When I started checking the column I noticed excess movement towards the firewall side and saw this part seemed to have broke. I haven't pulled my tech manuals
yet to check but thought, maybe someone here...
Well, I've been a bit out of it for the last few months (with covid and all) but doing good now (except for my back) and starting to work on car again. I did mount a 4 channel 8 track player before going downhill and that still works great. I still want to get the A/C going the folks that have...
Tried several places and they all can't get by the 1 minute kick-in for the blower so still looking, on hot days I just run 460 air for now. I was thinking a bit off the wall not to long ago and wondered what a shaker would look like on a 71 Imp., so I found a picture (on the web) and did some...
Okay, I figure I'll use the same thread to do an update, it seems to make sense.
I found someone to check out the A/C on my 71 Imperial and they did find a few leaks (they said they can fix) but the compressor is not hooked/wired up. I would like to find out if there's some kind of wiring...
Followup: I picked up an retro EQ but one that is new enough to have Sub out jacks, I also settled on a Pioneer underseat slim sub so I'll be working on the install of those on warm days (whenever we get some).
While I still have a couple minor things to do to make the install look cleaner, the 8 track is in place and working great along with the quad tapes. The 4 speakers (to me) lack a bit in bass frequencies but I'm thinking about either an Underseat sub or an Equalizer that would mount to the top...
Very Cool... I got the deck on the base and set it up in the car to do a full test before the final install and everything works like a champ and sounds great, glad I saved a lot of the Q8s I had. I hope to do the permanent install this week with the base and hiding all the wires. I'm thinking...
If I remember right, the turn signals on the 71 were fender mounted only and there was no light(s) in the dash panel like most other cars? I'm hoping I can find out if I am correct or do I have some bulbs to replace (dash). The fender signals work fine, still trying to figure out why the hazards...
So I've been looking for an 8 track player for my car (it came as an option) and it looks like I found one. I'm an old "Quad Head" from the 70s (4 channel taped & records) so I wanted something different then what was offered. I'm just need a couple brackets then I have all I need to install...
This is where I buy all my belts, needles and other items needed. Their prices are good and they ship fast. I've been buying from them for close to 10 years now.
