Hey Saylor---I'm liking your progress with the Fury.
After I bought the car the only things I fixed or added was a bunch of misc. grill pieces. The engine compartment was as it was when I bought it. I spent little time speculating on what previous owners did to it.
All I got from the seller is...
It was the --36th Annual Portland Transmission show. All cars free event. It covered many square blocks with hundreds of cars.
I should have taken many more pictures
Frankly, all I get from where this discussion is going is this hobby can be expensive.
I bought a new 69 Superbee in 1969 when I was making $1.25 per hour. That was tough but I was motivated by the car I got to drive for a while.
My interest in cars over the years was ALWAYS limited...
Is it not true that owning space for extra cars vs renting space all costs money?
Property is never really "owned". It is used for a while for a fee.
When one "buys" a car they can say they -rented- it for a one-time rental payment.:)
My first car was a 57 DeSoto Firesweep 4 door.
I was 15 and paid $50 for it in good running condition. After a few years and rod knocking made me call a wrecking yard to take it away.---I miss that car.
In 1968 I bought a 300C for $350. It had passenger door and fender damage from a minor wreck...
That back seat was illegal free a couple of days before the car left here.:) cause that's when I put the seats back in.
The fury could have been a party car on the transport. Imagine the trauma of critters on a trip like that and waking up in Texas in a strange car.-EEk
This caught my eye.--IMO the 392 is the real hemi.
I remember calling -Oregon auto Wreckers- in the early seventies asking about 392 Hemi engines.
They said they had a steady supply at $125 ea. Come on down and haul them away.:steering:
I really like the idea of putting them back to work in a...
Hey Saylor--Glad to hear the engine made it out of the rebuild shop in good shape.
I tried to take care of it over the many years and fully expected it would be a good rebuilder.
Do you have any info from the trans. rebuilder? All I recall was it was working fine until a bad leak put the car to...
My guess is that cooler was added at some point. Either that or it was tossed back in after the Ac evaporator was removed. To me, it does not look like what I would expect to be a stock item. It does not have a frame for any proper mounting.
My recall is it was just laying loose behind the grill.
I like this perspective on how these cars are selling.
It brought to mind that the avg. mix of coins one gets in change from spending paper money is $14.40 per lb. (face value -not metal value).:)
