Hi All, I am looking into freshening up the front end of my 68 polara. I’ve tried searching for new upper and lower ball joints, pitman arm but can’t seem to find any company that repops them. The car is equipped with Budd disc brakes. Seems like there is some luck locating those items for drum brakes but not for the Budd disc brakes. I have yet to do a tear down and actually check the parts for wear but they all seem like original parts . Anyone know if any manufacturer repops them? Or if I can send them out to get reburbished if that is even possible? Thanks in advance!

Without a doubt, Craig (@mobileparts ) above is your man. NOS, NORS American made original quality parts.

Calipers are near impossible to find, but thankfully, your calipers can be rebuilt, but currently only by a few providers. They should be sleeved with stainless to avoid the caliper bore rusting as they were prone to.

Your booster is worth its weight in gold - don't send it out to be rebuilt without ensuring that it will be returned - many swap and exchange core rebuilders will send a drum brake booster in its place. A big no no in my opinion.

Lower ball joints are literally unobtanium, so Craig above is the guy.

I learned long ago that you have to be VERY careful when looking for these brake parts. MANY are mis-labeled as "will fit your car" but when you have the BUDD brakes, they often do NOT. You will have a LITTLE less trouble as your car isn't an Imperial. Likely the ONLY "one stop shop" for these items is Craig, so I'd just check with / get them from him. He actually KNOWS which fits your car and which does not. I remember the idler arm being more trouble than the Pitman arm, but that was a long time ago.

The above is good to know on the brake booster - THANKS.

Hi, little unusual to see the Budd Disc brake system on 1968 Polara, can we see some engine pix and also your fender tag? Here's an example, nice car!

Heck yea! That is great news! I will PM you asap!

Ross ( A GREAT GUY — but he keeps sending us this wicked Canadian air blasts , EH ?? ) was fast to answer you….

The ONLY Factory Disc Brake System on 1966 - 1968 / early 1969 in the MOPAR “ C “ body world and IMPERIAL was the “ BUDD SYSTEM “ ….

They stand all by themselves, exclusively and exactly…..

Craig…..

When Mike ( GOLDMYN — Another GREAT GUY ) ^^ above ^^ was referring to the fact that a Dodge Polara had the BUDD System ——

It is because a large percentage of IMPERIALS got the BUDD Disc Brake System, / Option ….
5 % of Chryslers ( 300s , New Yorkers , Newports ) got the
BUDD Disc Brake System / Option ….
< 1 % of Dodges ( Monacos and Polaras ) got the
BUDD Disc Brake System / Option , and
< 1/2 % of Plymouths ( Furys , Grand Furys , and VIPs) got the BUDD Disc Brake System / Option …..

Your car is indeed RARE ……

Craig …..

68PolaraSGV / Cesar ,
I left you a phone message and my phone number ,
I answered your P.M. and my phone number is in there…

Talk to you shortly…..
Yours, Craig….

I used to use Rare Parts in Stockton, Ca. to get ball joints, and pitman arms rebuilt. Their number is 1-800-621-2008. Lyle is the guy I dealt with years ago.

I got new BUDD calipers through Car iD. They are NEW, not refurbished.

For those who are interested parties to this thread , we had been playing phone tag , partially due to schedules , etc. ,
but I finally got a chance to speak live , at length !!! — we spent an hour on the phone , and
Cesar / 68PolaraSGV is a Great Guy , but he is trying to juggle the Door Repair ( Grrrr ) , a 2 month old, and doing all the rest of the repairs on the Polara , so he has a mountain of real life issues on his plate….

We will reconvene , when he can and is able ….

Craig….

8:45 X 15 were the mandatory tires on your car because of the Disc brakes, It was an ordered car with AC and all tinted windows built May 9 1968, early cars didn't get the door post sticker (1Jan68) and the horn button is different, I'm sure there are others mandated by the Feds on 1 Jan68
