Does anyone have the template or at least some measurements for installing the passenger mirror into a 67 newport or similar? The one that matched the remote mirror. I found a NOS mirror and want to drill the holes. I have heard a rumor that they did NOT match the drivers door because of visibility issues, so i want to make sure its correct before I drill holes in my door.

I do. PM me to remind me. The template is for 66, but should be identical due to the front windshield and vent window frames are all the same.

The factory DID match the driver-side placement.
There is NO good placement for the original right side mirrors.
These mirrors were never good as the new mirrors we are use to on newer cars.

Even in newer vehicles with "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear" mirrors I do not depend on them, I guess learning to drive in cars without right mirrors made me not even use them.

Howdy! From my experience, I bought one of the new repops and measured exactly the position of the holes on the driver's side. While this pix isn't the best the mirror does what it needs to do and looks OEM. There is no warning of any kind on the glass; conversely, I did this years ago. This '68 was bought new by my folks and did not come with that right side mirror. I can';t imagine not having the mirror. Maybe this can help you.

The factory passenger side mirror (as a mate to the driver side remote controlled mirror) were a bit of a factory afterthought IMO (although it's nice to have them for trim balance) - the 65-66 twin post manual mirrors were much better for that. Generally as a viewing aid the remote mate mirror is fairly useless unless you can position it well enough to see anything. I had convex glass cut and stuck on which greatly improves its function.

One of the issues is they don't adjust inwards far enough to see what you need to see, and combined with the various slopes of the door shoulder where the mirror is mounted will compound that issue. However there are some things the dealer had to help like special base gaskets to tilt the mirror to optimize its position.

One has to play around and be SURE exactly where to drill... the template is not gospel in all cases.

I added a mirror to my 68. I tried to match it to my driver side equivalent. The mirror is def not as good as a modern day mirror. But it looks good and is slightly functional. I kinda wish I would've moved it back about another inch, offset from the driver side just a little. My seats don't recline so sometimes depending on how I sit the pillar gets in the way of part of the mirror. Nothing I can do about it now but no regrets. Was tough getting my large hands and a tool up inside the door frame to tighten the bolt.

I also added a passenger-side mirror on my 68 NewYorker

. to aide in seeing I added an additional convex mirror

I added a convex mirror that covers the whole glass - much easier to see stuff now. I also added one of the rare wedge gaskets to help with positioning.

The right outside mirror for our slabs are better to look at than looking through.
My old 68 NYer had a factory one and I did add a repop onto the BoaB.
On the BoaB I did measure exactly as the left side and installed from there.
Since my car has very little blind spots and I do my shoulder checks anyways,I use the inside rear view mirror for lane changes since it is very wide.
The right outside mirror helps just a tad for parking.

I agree that the car looks much more balanced with two mirrors. It's a small thing, but to me is a huge visual. My first NYer had one and this one will too before it's all said and done with.

Which way does the wedge gasket tip the mirror? Toward or away from the driver?

I want the visual balance....but also mine has a good blind spot being the fast top...and backing into places...Id like that little bit extra...

I seemed to remember something about this... We had a discussion in a thread about mirror position, 67 to 68. The '67 is mounted farther forward than the '68.

Went looking for a pic and found Stan's old car, which makes me think it was discussing his car. @commando1
