If the car had the original engine in it, it would be a bargain, but that conversion... Not so much.
I can see how it would not appeal to any of the MB crowd, or the Mopar guys either... and as a driver, I'm sure that the only redeeming value is MPG... and price of diesel these days might hurt that a little.
So... If I were ambitious, and I could get that car for half the price, I think it would be the perfect candidate for a modern hemi engine. It's a nice car, but nothing out of the ordinary and it's already had some surgery, so yea... It would be a great project. Guys have done the conversions, so it's not uncharted territory. Biggest problem might be undoing any "butchery" that happened in the diesel conversion, but I'll bet that there wasn't that much. I'd even give some thought to keeping the manual trans, although that pedal nonsense would have to get cleaned up.
I don't have the ambition or desire for a project so I'm just dreaming, but that's my thoughts.
