Interesting conversion... I see a hydraulic clutch and hydraulic boosted power brakes. Still kept that big brake pedal though...

The car has to be just downright slow but, I still can't help but wonder how the craftsmanship is on the conversion.

The rest of the car looks pretty nice. $5178USD.
 
Looks like a neat car. Would be better with a turbo. Id commute in that.

Looks like the 300 was about 500lbs more than the 300d. The 440/727 was probably a couple hundred of that. So should be fairly similar in lack of performance.

If someone has all the goodies to convert it back to OEM, and can do it themself, the $5178 isn't terrible for what looks like an A1 body and interior. If you want a 4dr, of course. 44k miles (or km) per the ad and it certainly looks like it.

And I bet that price is negotiable when the seller realizes neither Chrysler nor MB guys want it as-is, and aren't willing to pay that much for 1/2 the car they don't want.

If it were close and cheaper, but done correctly it isn't worth more than 5k in my opinion.
I have a wrecked 66 new Yorker sitting here with 48k on it, everytning needed to convert back, but the labor would be for nothing.
 
That car has been for sale for a few years. The diesel is whats killing the sale.
Something you would see and do in Cuba but not anywhere aroynd here Lol!!
 
Good thing it wasn't a 2dr HT. You purists would be freaking out clutching your chests! LOL!!!:rofl:
 
If the car had the original engine in it, it would be a bargain, but that conversion... Not so much.

I can see how it would not appeal to any of the MB crowd, or the Mopar guys either... and as a driver, I'm sure that the only redeeming value is MPG... and price of diesel these days might hurt that a little.

So... If I were ambitious, and I could get that car for half the price, I think it would be the perfect candidate for a modern hemi engine. It's a nice car, but nothing out of the ordinary and it's already had some surgery, so yea... It would be a great project. Guys have done the conversions, so it's not uncharted territory. Biggest problem might be undoing any "butchery" that happened in the diesel conversion, but I'll bet that there wasn't that much. I'd even give some thought to keeping the manual trans, although that pedal nonsense would have to get cleaned up.

I don't have the ambition or desire for a project so I'm just dreaming, but that's my thoughts.
 
Of course, I just looked at today's list of bondo'd up jewels in the "not mine" for sale section starting with a rusty '66 300 at $5.5K and various other Plymouths and Dodges going up to close to $10k and comparing them, this isn't so bad... You won't need $1000-1500 in upholstery to get past Mexican blankets or Walmart seat covers or $10K in body work and paint.
