    RAG JOINT/STEERING COUPLER 1965 IMPERIAL

Well I got to the bottom of what i thought was a worn out steering gear box on my '65 Imperial: the steering coupler/rag joint is SHREDDED. Scary. Car is parked. Now I"m trying to figure out what I can use as a replacement. The '65 Imperial shows a different part number from the '64, different...

    C Body Rag Joint

So I appreciate the previous posts on rag joints. I did not realize mine was so bad until I had to pull the shield.....and arrrgh. And, I found that some old posts using the Dorman was correct, and that Lares 220 was the right one. Although, Lares had none, I did find one. The Dorman does...

Which power steering box for 67 Chrysler from rockauto?

From my observation, the place the gearbox will need adjustment is on the input side, where the rag joint is. If you turn the steering wheel, you'll probably notice the input shaft moving in or out before the car's wheels make any effort to turn from straight. As to "Cardone", they might not...

What Is This Called (71 Imperial 4Dr) (Rag Joint)

Follow-Up: We installed the new rag joint/Steering Coupler and it does steer quite a bit better, the forums here helped a lot so thank you on that, BUT..... There's still some play in the wheel and it makes me wonder if the Steering Gear Box (with the adjuster on it) could be going bad and how...

Which C Bodies have the steering coupler (rag joint) and why (or why not) ?

My belief was that if a car had a Saginaw steering coupler, it would have the thick rubber rag joint. Also my belief that all power-steering setups will have the sliding metal-body coupler. But there is likely more to it than that (like shaft alignment) as @MrMoparCHP mentioned.

How to secure the cover on the Bergman steering coupler??

Hey guys, I've pretty much upgraded the whole steering on the 72 Newport with Bergman box and adaptor, along with new rag joint updated model...the only part I'm struggling with is how does the rubber cover and metal clamp secure to the slip joint coupler Bergman provides?? On the old original...

    C Body Rag Joint

...linkage and suspension parts but still feel like the steering is too loose. I'm going to replace the original gear box, coupler, and rag joint. I'm trying to decide whether to rebuild the coupler and replace rag joint with OE replacement or go with a U-joint style setup on the steering...

Is the 1961 Imperial power steering box the same as used in the 1961 Newport?

...in shape. Inside of it are some items which can deteiorate and wear. There is a rebuild kit for that. Then, there can be the official "rag joint", which looks like a section of tire sidewall in a circular piece with holes drilled in it. Road isolation is its purpose. Look in the Chrysler...

    Power Steering Box HELP

what Big John said, firm feel, steering coupler, and rag joint replacement. Nice thing about firm feel you can pick what steering tightness you want, you just have to wait a bit because they build to suit.

What Is This Called (71 Imperial 4Dr) (Rag Joint)

I have a bit too much play in my steering so I was going to adjust it and take some out. When I started checking the column I noticed excess movement towards the firewall side and saw this part seemed to have broke. I haven't pulled my tech manuals yet to check but thought, maybe someone here...

What Is This Called (71 Imperial 4Dr) (Rag Joint)

Thanks for replys. The rag joint/steering coupler looks like you may be right. I know the 6 pack picture shot is small so I'll put two larger ones here. Is the Lares 220 the part we're looking at? Oh, and would the one at RockAuto require a heat shield separate?
