Front and rear shock absorbers for my 57 Belvedere 301 v8?

My front shocks were fully extended, but the rears were strapped. Not an Amazon purchase.

@NitrousTuner1 any chance you can share a link to the shocks you’re referring to?

    Shocks for 72 C body

The air shocks are new. Put on by the previous owner. Rear is level so maybe I will drive it some first and then decide. I have two like new kyb that came off the rear of my Duster but I would i.agine they may be too short.

    Shocks for 72 C body

I'm very happy with the KYB shocks front and rear on my New Yorker. The ride feels more "modern" than anything else I tried, with crisp handling using the stock torsion bars. It's a -66 so it's a bit older than your car, though. They were dirt cheap from Rockauto.

    Is KYB "Losing It's Stuff?"

More and more, I choose "Hecho in Mexico" when I can't get something made in this country any longer. The Chinese Communist Party still likes to centralize production, and while they've embraced crapitalism, with traditional Chinese ethics, for MANY brands of many diverse products, they use the...

Front and rear shock absorbers for my 57 Belvedere 301 v8?

Yes, the boxes were long for the front shocks with all the KYB markings and #'s. I think they're real but you're right, they should have been tied in some way. The rear ones were but they're designed differently. The fronts just have the eye hole on one end and a straight shaft at the other. I...

Front and rear shock absorbers for my 57 Belvedere 301 v8?

I used a few zip ties to keep the shock compressed while I inserted it into the space. I then cut the zip tie and fished the remaining pieces out using the pick and some needle nose pliers. Unfortunately, that’s the best I can provide.

    Shocks

The question is "Why" the load-levelers on the back? Perhaps Monroe has some of them? Otherwise, the "evil" air shocks (which KYB might have), at minimum-to-level air pressure tp level the rear ride height might be needed. A noted issue with KYBs on the front is getting them into "the tube"...

    Tire pressure?

My 57 Belvedere has new Hankook Optimo tires and KYB shocks. When driving it drives straight and firm except on coarse or weathered asphalt. I can really feel it in the steering wheel. It's great on smooth asphalt. Is that tire pressure or the nature of torsion bar suspension? The original...

Catastrophic Rim Failure; Factory Original 14" Stamped Steel Rim

...sold this crap to the 3 OTHER U.$. auto-corps. I suspect this occurred. NOT a good advert for running the original wheels..... These barrio streets play hell with all the suspension on any motor vehicle. My KYB "Gas-Adjust" shocks already are allowing reverberating bounce. ++ungood

    Tire pressure?

...is whatever the car manufactured tire pressure is in 1957 it would be say 24 or 26 PSI, Then your new radials can be set at 30 or 32 PSI. Done. Kyb shocks do have a firmer ride. Think about it, going with gas charged shocks and radial tires, which are a great improvement, one cannot expect...

...correction done. Thats is a real beauty. Do all the mechanical sorting, Engine super tune, suspension and steering, good shocks like Bilstein and KYb, Larger front sway bar from FIrm Feel will give a great road feel improvement and still look stock. But before tearing it down I'd sort it and...

    Is KYB "Losing It's Stuff?"

One concern I would have with the Rancho shocks is their heritage of being a real off-road shock for pickup trucks which have been lifted and such. NOT car-based at all. I'm not sure why they have seemingly expanded into the car realm of things, either. Tbe compressed length is very...

    Front Shocks

Thanks. I was leaning towards the KYB next. My understanding of torsion suspension adjustment is if you crank up the tension, you also bring up ride height. I'm just looking for a more steady ride.
