    Steer Gear Replace

...odd man out is a stud with nut. I will likely just put on the strap and pull the new one back into place....TBD. Another note on rag joint.....the boys at Lares are out. They sent me to a small guy who did not call back for hours, so I went to RockAuto and they say they have sent me...

'66 300 Rag Joint. "am I the crazy one?"

I'm NOT making a rag joint out of a hockey puck. I'd rather not stack up VW parts either. I'd expect that even the $200 NOS ones have been sitting so long that they rubber would crack and crumble almost immediately too. Does anyone have a non-jury rig solution to this mystery? I never would...

Hello from the Dark Side (DRK SD 73)

...throwing parts at it. If I could go back I would have tried replacing one or two pieces at a time rather than buying a dozen at a time. Rag joint, ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks and a good front end alignment would be where I would start next time. However the combination of...

    Power Steering Stop Leak

NOT the hockey puck! That's a "rag joint coupler" which is best replaced w one meant for Landrovers nowadaze. The pot coupler is the one right above the shaft of that steering gear, usually orange colored, or, on a '66, black. Its what joins the shaft to the steering hear. The most likely...

    C Body Rag Joint

Here's the story..... The Dorman rag joints were cobbled in by some before the repop became available. I never liked it and thought it wasn't a good alternative. Bochillon Performance built an aluminum piece that replaced it, but that made for a solid connection, not allowing for any flex...

    Power Steering Box HELP

...pop up. They seem to be OK, but geez... the stock box can just be removed and replaced with no anguish. That said, I would look at the rag joint in the steering column first. Chances are good you'll want/need to replace it when you pull the box anyway, but that could be causing your problem...

Front End Rebuild - Firm Feel or any other options?

just rebuilt mine and used parts from firm feel and rare parts(link below). I would highly recommend if your steering gear box, rag joint, tie rods, and ball joints have a lot of miles to replace them as well. I recently did everything you listed and more but didnt really feel the new car...

Some people should not work on cars

I’ve been going over the 73 Polara and doing some preventative maintenance, I noticed a vibration at 75 mph and a trans leak. I removed the trans pan and found an old rag in there! Extra filtering? Lol! Then I found my vibration, someone had recently installed a rear u joint, they neglected to...

...a bit of vagueness "on-denter". THAT is adjusted with a special spanner wrench on the INPUT side of the steering gear, after the lower "rag joint" and "coupler" at the base of the steering column have been checked for age-wear. Adjusting at "the top" of the gear will not affect this issue...

Shaft in rebuilt column not long enough

...my 68 T&C to buckets and had a console steering column from a 68 sport fury.
