Does sound like an exhaust leak. Look for "black trails" on the exhaust connections.

Sure sounds like an exhaust leak to me. You might get lucky just snugging up all the bolts. But, if I were a betting man. I'd look for your leak where the pipe meets the manifold.

Unfortunately you are not going to see much more benefit of the 26” rad pulling through the 22” opening…

What he’s saying in addition to his fan/shroud recommendation you should make sure all the areas surrounding the radiator are blocked off so that the air has nowhere else to go but through the radiator.

Remove hoses from nipples and "short circuit" them. I've made simple u-tubes of soldered copper pipe and two elbows for a tidy solution. Or just loop the hose. Don't kink it. Suck out all the coolant from one of the nipples with a wet/dry vac, otherwise it will leak and dribble forever...
