1966 Imperial front shock retrofit (Ridetech)

You can get the shocks spec a linked to in Bilstein from FirmFeel.com and PST. The rear are a couple inches short for the Fuselage Imperial, but might be a good fit for you. Fronts would be a good fit and ride over the KYB. https://firmfeel.com/c_body_mopar_shocks.html

    Shocks for 72 C body

1966 are a different size than 1972-1973 Chrysler and Plymouth. KYB rear shocks for 1972-1973 Chrysler and Plymouth c-body are discontinued. KYB still has rear shock for 1972-1973 Dodge c-body.

    Is KYB "Losing It's Stuff?"

VERY INTERESTING data here: I know where to get some of those, and already was considering it. Hope they're still there. Pity that most adjustable shocks have disappeared. Another relegated to Unobtainium now. Clearly there's something to this. BOTH of the Newports I've bought since...

    Shocks for 72 C body

I'm very happy with the KYB shocks front and rear on my New Yorker. The ride feels more "modern" than anything else I tried, with crisp handling using the stock torsion bars. It's a -66 so it's a bit older than your car, though. They were dirt cheap from Rockauto.

What shocks are best for my 66 Newport

Are KYB the popular choice or is there something better?

    Is KYB "Losing It's Stuff?"

The BAD thing about shock absorbers from THEN to NOW is that much has changed! In times of when the cars were just "used cars", the old Monroe Super 500s had the big pistons and firmer valving. We got some Chrysler Parts versions for the '66 Newport, back then, and it made it really fun to...

Where to buy reco'd booster and what rear shocks are people using? All I see listed is Air Shocks from the 80's!!!

Monroe was Chrysler's shock absorber vendor. Their shocks, back in the later 1960s, even had the Monroe name stamped into them. By the middle 1970s, it was "MAECO" for Monroe Auto Equipment Company. That was then. As to currently, I'm not sure that the old Monroe shocks are similar to what...

Time to replace shocks - recommend?

I have KYB on all four corners on both my '66 Coronet 500 (since 2003) and my '66 Imperial (since 2019) and they've worked out very well on both cars.

What did you do to your C-body today....

I blew my '66 300 a kiss on my way out the door and showed her the new KYB shocks that were just delivered. I think she blushed.

    Custom shocks

Hey all, Anyone familiar with these guys...? They rebuild or even customize a shock to fit. I put the KYB gas-adjust on the front and it's still pretty bouncy. Afraid of it bottoming out. Maybe when I get the rear on it will help but there turning out to be harder than the front...! Jack...

    Imperial wheel help needed….

It might be a generational thing, but IMPERIALS are about style and elegance, AND being able to easily lose a similar Lincoln or Cadillac in the twisty roads of the world. Might some 15x8, or even some factory 15x7 wheels be better? Certainly. OR maybe some 17x7s with some sticky tires...

My new old Jet Age 300

Ditch the air shocks and go to Rock Auto and order a set (front and rear) of KYB Gas Shocks. I have them on my '66 300 coupe, and the ride is very smooth and controlled. And welcome to FCBO!

Time to replace shocks - recommend?

I love the KYB gas mono-piston shocks I bought for my 66 last year. I use Monroe load levelers in the rear as I run around with an easy quarter ton in the trunk on these barrio trails I drive on. KYB makes the best shock I've ever bought. Go with them.

    Tire pressure?

"Drastic suspension changes" did not happen with the earlier radial tire options. Same suspension architectures as with bias-ply or bias-belted tires. Radials needed a little bit of alignment setting differences, being much more critical of toe-in settings due to their less-tread-scrubbing...

Time to replace shocks - recommend?

Joining this thread late, my 66 wagon has the same front end floaty / bottoming issue. Seems like KYB shocks are the overwhelming favorite - Scott, what made you pick Bilsteins and where did you get them?

Time to replace shocks - recommend?

The KYBs are great. I have them installed on my '66 300 coupe and my '66 300 convertible. The ride is very good and very well controlled. I highly recommend the KYBs.

    Collector's Auto Supply Rear Shocks?

I'm going to find out how well they do for rear end shocks. I use Mathilda like a pickup truck at times, and have seen the Koni brand gets rave reviews there. I LIKE adjust-ability big BIG TIME! Mind you, I'll NEVER waste a dime on air shocks again. I've found, regardless of brand, that air...

recommendations for front shocks, preferably HD

I just installed four KYB shocks on my '66 300 coupe. I am amazed at how much more controlled the ride is now. And the car just seems to drive noticeably netter than before.
