Is There an Easier Way to Remove the Radio From a 1968 Dash?

Maybe with good cause! This '68 seems to be one of the most troublesome cases I've ever owned, and I have put tuners in many late 60s-70s vehicles. Yours might be easier, or not, IDK....

Is There an Easier Way to Remove the Radio From a 1968 Dash?

THANKS! THIS was precisely the sort of advice I sought, though not the answer I had hoped for. I will just have to dedicate some day this Fall or winter to do that little chore, along w some others in the dash then. At least its not a critical component, and the underdash cassette player will...

Is There an Easier Way to Remove the Radio From a 1968 Dash?

I'm pretty flexible. I worked over my 66 dash easily enough too. I'm also Lazy on Principle, which is why I explore sundry paths and then pick the best before breaking a sweat.

Is There an Easier Way to Remove the Radio From a 1968 Dash?

It appears to be an easier job this way, doesn't it? I can relate. I fear this is the easiest path, as per the FSM, but still find the lateral path I propose tempting. I installed a new glovebox over a year ago, which went easily enough and think it may yet offer fewer screw operations than...

Is There an Easier Way to Remove the Radio From a 1968 Dash?

Greetings Slab Side Elders! While I'm not YET REPLACING my old thumb wheel AM radio, it struck me that I can't replace the dash speaker much unless I move it out of the way.... Even this doesn't look easy. I read the FSM on this matter, and really don't care much for the notion of...

    Dash Cover?

I got a velour Dash Designs cover through Rock Auto in mid April, and it fits perfectly, looks 1000% better than peeling, brittle vinyl. Came to $47 including shipping. Guys, if you need a dash cover, these are a sore pecker deal...CAN'T BE BEAT!

    Dash Cover?

That's cool. I ordered one through Rock for $33. I had hesitated on the brand until I saw that it would fit. Apparently, they do. Hard to get carpet for $33.....

    Sticky Odometer Blues

Yeah, I reckon that will be my First Resort too. Let's see how a good cleansing and maybe some dry lube will do.

    Sticky Odometer Blues

Gertrude, our 1968 Newport convertible, marks only about half the actual distance she travels on the main odometer, and seldom twitches the trip odo. I can manually reset the trip odo, and get it to log about 9/10s of the actual distance travelled, while rolling after the reset, which also MUST...

    Odometer suddenly working … intermittently

Hmm, that trip odo seems to be a major drain on resources alright. My main odo works for about 90% of the distance, as far as my GPS odo can measure, with my trip odo fading out, then coming back on. I figured the speedo cable is worn, and have a new ATP one, which I haven't felt any...

68 Newport Rear Seat - looking for style identification

I'M looking for a ragtop 68 rear seat! ANYBODY GOT SOMETHING WITH AN INTACT FRAME? I got the front from my 66 into the '68 ragtop, after turning the feet inside out, but I saw right away the back seat is smaller than standard. Am looking.

At LAST! A REAL Custom Seat Cover Maker, with GOOD Product!

You're welcome! I've used saddle blankets in my rides for decades. Some suck, other's are good. So, finding somebody who can stitch together a decent cover was a good deal! I'm sti9ll uusing that old bench, even though it really isn;t meant to fit a '68 convertible. I managed it by turning...

    Custom gauge set up

I always prefer non-electrical gauges for coolant temperature and oil pressure, though for electrical quantities like voltage it's necessary. I read the ignition for the tachometer too. I always shop for NOS U.S. made stuff, Stewart Warner, Clark and Auto Meter in this '68 Newport.

At LAST! A REAL Custom Seat Cover Maker, with GOOD Product!

I got a saddle blanket cover, and will stick with them for so long as I live. There are said to be other fabrics, more durable, but for comfort and durability, saddle blanket weave works well. At present, I kluged in the bench seat from my 1966 wreck into the '68 convertible. (Had to turn the...

    bench seat cover

They made an excellent seatcover for me. I'll probably be using it again in the next couple months, as the vinyl front bench seat in Gertrude is disintegrating. the foam dried out in that barn, and its cracking apart and falling out of the bottom, while the vinyl itself is cracking. THAT seat...
