    Rear Axle Bearing Noise

Put the seal in the coldest part of your freezer the night before and put them in as quick as you can after taking them out. Makes it much easier. I also had trouble with them not wanting to go in straight, but I didn't have proper tools at the time. Mine were beyond repacking, but a grease...

    U-joint replacement

Really any good grease will work. I personally like red n tacky. Just don't use the cheapest grease and it should last a long time.

    U-joint replacement

Each of the four inner corners are either being forced together or apart. Two together, two apart. The differential puts force on the driveshaft opposite of the engine. You have to find one of the two corners that would be forced together and put the grease fitting in that spot. Therefore it...

    Hard to fill fuel tank

I had the same problem. It was solved by taking off the hose at the vapor canister and blowing it out with an air compressor. Just make sure it's the one that goes back to the gas tank.

    Original cam part # for a 72 400

Thank you Dave. Do you know anything about cam #2532190? "The internet" says 365 horse 440. As far as I can tell, the specs are the same as Melling spd-11 which is listed as a stock replacement for 3577181. I should also mention this is a stock build 2BBL 400 with flat top pistons. Do you think...

    Original cam part # for a 72 400

Does anyone know the original camshaft part number for a 1972 400 engine? Or, suggest a good OE grind camshaft? I am thinking about using a new old stock camshaft in my "factory fresh" engine build to cut down on the chance of wipeout from Chinese metal. Plus I liked the very smooth idle I had...

Looking for advice on valves, lifters etc.

This has become a complete rebuild. I'm just getting started. This morning I dropped the heads off at a machine shop to be completely redone, and have the exhaust manifolds made flat again. What can be done to get as much mileage as possible out of this engine?

Looking for advice on valves, lifters etc.

I am well aware of "The slope." I got pulled into it when I did the timing set. I want this to be a reliable car, I am going to go ahead and have the valves redone. I think it needs piston rings as well, it was starting to get more and more blow-by out of the oil filler cap and low vacuum...

Looking for advice on valves, lifters etc.

The deepest score line I can just barely catch with my finger nail. The next deepest I cannot. The chunks are the remains of the screw. As far as I can tell there are no holes in the piston. The deepest pit is around 1/16 of an inch. I don't know how thick the pistons are. I believe the knocking...

Looking for advice on valves, lifters etc.

Finally got the head off. What a pain. So much headache could've been saved by running a magnet down the hole... The top of the piston, and the valves have a visible "hammered finish." It is the screw, I can see part of the threads. It bounced around and eventually lodged its self in the top of...

Looking for advice on valves, lifters etc.

No metal in filter that I can see. I'm in the process of getting the head off. The valve I saw a metal shaving in, the spark plug for that one is bent. I know it was not bent when it went in.

Looking for advice on valves, lifters etc.

I had the choke off because it wasn't doing anything and making the car very hard to start at times. One of the small bolt heads broke when taking it off. When I went to put it back on, I dropped one of the new bolts down the choke well. If it doesn't lead to the valves, where does it lead to...

Looking for advice on valves, lifters etc.

I cant get a good picture of the valve, but this is where i am. I haven't removed the cylinder head yet.

Looking for advice on valves, lifters etc.

1972 Chrysler Newport with 400 engine. Completely factory original with 80,000 miles on it. I had a moment of teenage dumbassery when I dropped a screw into the exhaust port for the choke and couldn't find it. A week or two later it started knocking. I've started disassembling the engine, and...

    Suggestions on coughing/stalling

I don't mind points. Easy to swap out on the side of the highway if need be. What I do mind is the constant stream of terrible condensers. No matter where you buy, how much you spend, they all suck. The NOS one lasted the longest. About 3 months, and I don't daily drive this car by any means...

    Suggestions on coughing/stalling

Problem solved. It was the condenser again. I'm about sick of changing them. It is the 400 with the 2210 carburetor. I already know of the warping problem, and I keep the air cleaner barely finger tight.

    Suggestions on coughing/stalling

I looked over all the fuel lines, no leaks. I shot air into the line from the fuel pump, it is certainly not clogged. It wasn't until after that when I finally saw the black mark from my exhaust on the cement. It's most probably the condenser again. I went through at least 7 of them last year...

    Suggestions on coughing/stalling

Brand new coil, spark plug wires, and spark plugs. Replaced a while before those were the points, condenser, cap, and rotor. All of the times that I have had electrical problems, it has acted different than this. It acted like this once before, about 10 seconds before I ran out of gas when my...

    Suggestions on coughing/stalling

Yes, I forgot to mention it is points ignition. I ran through a lot of condensers until I bought an NOS one. If it were the carburetor/ too much gas, I would think I could smell that. Ill take a look at the fuel lines when I get a chance.
