No it's not going out until I can get the weight knocked off of it.

    Picking a new torque converter

    Picking a new torque converter

Heads were fresh when put on the engine. Verified forged crank and proper forged crank harmonic balancer. Engine was a late '72 and there were still forged cranks being used then. Vibration is RPM, not road speed related. Letting it drop to idle by kicking into neutral the vibration is...

    Picking a new torque converter

All the mounts are good. This was an rv 440 with super low mileage but got new rings, rods and mains. Driveline all new with 1350 u joints. No machine work or balancing done as no hardware was changed. There was a random tc installed.

    Picking a new torque converter

Took it for a long drive Saturday. Did great but the engine vibration is defnitely more pronounced. The rear view mirror vibrated so much it's hard to see out of. Kick it into neutral and the vibration stops.

    Picking a new torque converter

Yes I know it's forged, I verified it as we thought it might be cast but the crank and harmonic balancer indicated forged. It's a late '72 engine.

    Picking a new torque converter

I was always told forged crank 440's need a neutral balance TC and flex plate. I think the guy who built the engine used an external balanced "heavy duty" converter.

    Picking a new torque converter

Now that I've got the new rear gear put in, the engine vibration this 440 has always had is a bit more prevelant. I'm suspecting a torque converter for an external balanced engine got installed. What I have is a 440 forged crank, 727 auto, 3.23 sure grip rear gear with Dr. Diffs Sure-Trac II...

    New rear gears

Ok, cars done! So far really liking the new gear ratio. Lost the drivetrain vibrations it had, but it also brought out the engine vibration this 440 has always had. Little bit of whine on decel now but I expected that. We're thinking either harmonic balancer, but most likely the torque...

    New rear gears

Well decided to get the new diff with the 3.23 gears and Sure Trac 2 limited slip center section installed. This goes along with new axle bearings and seals. All parts were sourced from Dr. Diff. Had a new driveline made at Rob Brogles urging to get rid of the rubber isolated one the car came...

    A gift for the Chrysler

Decided to replace the axle bearings and axle seals since we're going to be in there, splurged for the Timken set from Dr Diff. Also got his billet steel adjuster kit, and a reproduction gear ratio tag from Mancini Racing. Didn't need that, just thought it would be cool.
