    brake drum color

Looks like Chevy Engine Orange in that photo, to me . . . could just be the lighting of course.

yep, that's the one I knew about already. Good photo, thank you!

    brake drum color

Hi Aside from those few models that had parts of the brake drum painted red where it could be seen through the wheel slots, did Chrysler Corp. ever paint brake drums or were they just left to rust? Just curious, thanks.

    Caliper beyond repair?

That looks like a lot of pitting … doubtful.

    Hissing noise from brake pedal

That was what I was thinking. I am considering getting a kit and doing it myself. I have the Bendix booster, not the Kelsey Hayes.

    Hissing noise from brake pedal

So on my 66 Newport, I recently have a slight hiss coming from the brake pedal inside the car. It goes away when I apply the brakes. There is no rough idle or anything associated with a vacuum leak to the engine. I’ve had a brake booster fail before, but the symptoms it displayed were a loud...

Slight brake pull after everything replaced new

It was the PO who put all the new parts on. I doubt any cutting or arc matching was done. I’m not sure how many miles he put on the car in the 3 years he owned it, but I’ve put probably 1200 gentle miles on it since getting it in January. I’m gonna take it all apart and put it together again...

Slight brake pull after everything replaced new

'66 Newport, 11" x 2.75" front drums. all new drums, shoes, springs/hardware, wheel cylinders, hard brake lines, soft brake lines . . . Slight pull to the left on hard brake application. Not sure what might cause this when everything is brand new. Ideas? Already planning to tear down...

Brake spring noise when applying brakes

The levers on mine are above the star wheel, not below it.

Brake spring noise when applying brakes

It's a poorly lit photo taken at a poor angle, so it might look bad but actually be fine. I will pull everything apart and make sure it's done right. Thanks.

Interesting wear patterns on rear drums

The blue oval on the drum in the first picture is a reflection. The drum was sitting on the lid of my recycling container.

Brake spring noise when applying brakes

The PO put all new everything on before I bought the car. I just upgraded to a ‘67 Master Cylinder so I took all 4 drums off just to do a visual inspection and confirm that everything was new.

Brake spring noise when applying brakes

Yes I can hear the springs actuate when I come to a stop. I did a visual inspection today and didn’t notice anything unusual, but I’ll take the springs off and put them back on again and make sure all of the lube points have grease. I’ve been servicing drum brakes on my cars for 30 years now and...

Brake spring noise when applying brakes

When I apply the brakes I can hear the return springs stretching out. Is this common? Any way to reduce the noise if so? It sounds just like when your getting the springs installed after having everything apart. Thanks! [66 Newport]

Interesting wear patterns on rear drums

or maybe a parking brake out of adjustment? These are on the rear . . . either way, thanks for the comments.

Wheel bearing hub assembly on FRONT!
