Finally... Taking my 66 on Route 66!

After Albuquerque, we went to Flagstaff, Kingman, Oatman, and Havasu City. This morning was Newberry Springs and Barstow and then back up to Northern California. After completing 2,481 carefree miles, I now have a new appreciation for the old Chrysler. We're looking forward to many more...

Finally... Taking my 66 on Route 66!

Excellent! They seem to be well balanced as we have exceeded 80 mph on a couple occasions, and I haven't experienced any vibration. We did hit some heavy rainstorms along the way, and the old Chrysler felt solid with good traction. And yes... the ride is nice and smooth.

Finally... Taking my 66 on Route 66!

The Meteor Crater was brought up at our dinner last night with the group we are caravaning with. I think that will be added to the list for today. Thanks for the recommendation.

Finally... Taking my 66 on Route 66!

Made to Albuquerque today! So far so good (Knock on wood :) The New Yorker is driving like a dream... smooth and comfortable. Tomorrow we are heading to a corner in Winslow Arizona. I heard there is a girl in a flatbed ford there that is quite a site to see!! Then on to Flagstaff...

Finally... Taking my 66 on Route 66!

We flew into Saint Louis on Thursday and the New Yorker was waiting for us. After visiting with friends for two days, we hit the road yesterday (Sunday). The Chrysler drove like a dream and glided from Saint Louis to Joplin. Great sites and fun times so far. High point was Uranus Mo, but...

Finally... Taking my 66 on Route 66!

Well.... It's been a year in the planning and many things have changed. Originally my wife and I were going to drive the New Yorker to Chicago and then follow as much of the historic route 66 back to California. That was before we knew that we had a new granddaughter showing up the same week...

    68 New Yorker Daily Driver

My stock tires were 8.55 x 14 Bias Ply tires which I believe are pretty close to 225 75R x 14's. I'm running 225 75R 15's as my future plans are to convert to disc brakes. The fit is perfect and appear to be about the same size.

That's a great point! No pun intended.... I may reconsider the petronix conversion.

    68 New Yorker Daily Driver

I did the same as you and purchased a clean low mileage original. I’ve been driving it about 3-4 days a week since I bought it. It’s been a dream to drive and extremely reliable. I started out with shorter trips, and then increasing the distance and frequency as my confidence has been gaining...

GM responds to the 65 Mopars...

As I was growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, my dad would buy a new car every 3 to 4 years. The first car I remember was his 1965 Falcon Sprint convertible with a V8 and bucket seats. He traded it in for a 1968 Dodge Charger in late 1967 and was the envy of the neighborhood. Unfortunately that...

I'm thinking about getting a vintage trailer!

Wow! That’s a lot of great information and advice. I’m no stranger to trailers and towing however I’ve never done it with a regular passenger car. I have a 2022 Jeep rubicon that use to tow my overland trailer and I have a class A motorhome that I use to tow my Jeep or bronco. I have a...

I'm thinking about getting a vintage trailer!

Problem solved! I found out that in 2015 Shasta did a re-issue of their 1961 trailers. Nearly identical, but with modern components including a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for one of these units.

I'm thinking about getting a vintage trailer!

Excellent advice. My thought was that we would do all of the above and stay at cool motor-inn's, cabins, as well as RV parks. But you are right, the trailer may add a level of cumbersomeness... Regardless, I still thinking a vintage trailer would be a great addition to the New Yorker for...

I'm thinking about getting a vintage trailer!

Good to know! The trailer I'm looking at weighs 2,300 lbs.

I'm thinking about getting a vintage trailer!

As I am planning out our cross country and route 66 trip next year, the thought of towing a small vintage trailer is intriguing. Our 66 New Yorker is equipped with the 350HP version of the 440 and is completely stock. Do any of you see any issues with towing a small vintage trailer. I'm...
