Hmmm, Thank you for the lead on that blue '66.. but almost $4,000. more than the one I'm looking at in Jersey and it's not even a poly-head car. Still needs at least the same sheet metal work on rear quarters. Interior is the same if not in worse shape than the poly-head car.

I appreciate all that you guys are saying, I really do.. the cautionary tales of a "project" certainly noted. None of us ever really know what we are getting into until we get into it. I hear horror stories about beautiful, restored $25,000. cars needing motors replaced 1 month after the sale.

This little 2 dr post may fire up with very little effort, or it may need a little coaxing. Or it may be seized!

If it's not seized, getting it running shouldn't cost $4000.
If it's a solid, straight car with a motor that spins, the last thing I'm worried about right now is a 10,000 paint job.

The 318 poly has great potential as a stroker down the line.. so switching it out for a 440 is less interesting to me now.. especially after seeing 1Fury1's gorgeous, bad-*** '66 Fury I 2 dr post poly stroker w/390hp. Getting it to that level is inspiring.. Wow, what a car Terry has built!

GG1, if you get it and decide not to keep it, I could use items off of it. The 318 Poly is good for north of 500 hp, like around 525 or so. I owned a 500-525 hp dart that weighed around 2,900 lbs. and it was fast as ****. It would do 10.4 in the qtr. I think 500 in a 3,600 lb. car would still be quite fast, especially with some low gearing and a great, well set-up trans. Yeah, I would skip the 440. You can get all the power for the street you need out of a much lighter small block. I'm thinking of twin-turboing my '66 Fury I 2-door post, if I don't sell it.

Furiousone,
I would have gladly passed parts on to you, but fellow member amazinblue82 beat you to the punch. I went out to look at it this week and it turned out be an incredibly solid and complete car. Got a breaker bar and 1 1/4 socket on the motor and it turned beautifully. The seals on that engine are clean and tight. All fluids clean and where they should be. Underside was surprisingly clean and solid. Panels untouched and straight.
I decided to pass on this restoration right now to focus on the car I already have.. however, amazinblue82 messaged me a few days ago ago after seeing the article I posted(link posted in this thread) on that 426 poly build, and became next in line. He's taking the whole car. I can't wait to see what he does with it; sounds serious!
I hope you find the parts you need. That Dart you had must have been FUN-- thanks for the encouragement! What year was it? I am excited by all the potential in these motors and plan to build a basic 65-66 Fury poly car into a 500hp+ badass.. and still be numbers matching!

It was a '69 GTS Dart that was a drag car. It had a 371 stroker in it. Budget built, but Pinky (he was named Pinky by the guy who built him) thought he was 10' tall and bullet-proof. I'll upload a picture of it someday. It was glossy black with a magenta tail stripe, a six-pack hood that was black, also with a magenta area that ran from the back of the scoop following the lines of the scoop to the edge of the hood. It did a nearly complete vertical wheel stand one day. I may do the same thing with my '66 Fury. All stock looking under the hood and inside the car, but build up that engine to 500+ horse. I'm sure I'll find what I need eventually. I would've had all the parts I need, but I got taken by someone here. My Fury is numbers-matching and I still have the original Certi-Card on the radiator.

Nice article about the 318 Poly. I also read the one that was in HotRod Magazine. I believe it was about the same builders. I'm sorry to see that it was not built with the Poly block, but with an L/A block, instead. Hmm . . .

Yeah I know.. they used poly heads though, so why didn't they just find the entire motor intact and start with that??? As noted in the article, there were hundreds of thousands of them produced between 1957-1966.

Alex thanks for making the effort to go inspect it for a fellow member even though you decided to pass. Sounds like its an excellent prospect. It will be nice to see amazinblue82 bring it back to life.

deal made in principle. a few things to work out. feel confident.

my plan is sleepy looking ride, with thumpin' polyheaded beast of an engine mated with what ...i dont have four speed pedals. plenty of A833s though as well as 727s i have tho. gotta think about that.

first things first ..thks GG-1 for putting eyes on her for me. thx 1Fury1 for setting the bar high.

Clutch pedal was my first thought when I saw that post, congrats amazinblue. If your looking for a swingset for this car I've got a set for manual brakes I'd let go of for this project. PM if interested.
