1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

Today's after-work progress:

Stripped this mess off the car. The floor patch was laid over top of the old crap. It's a bit soft above the patch, so I'm going to bridge the gap with some new metal.

Also got to replace half of this crap.

Should be fun. At least the other side is good enough to hopefully be able to use as a template.

Patched this panel. Going to soak it in some DIY "evapo rust" to get rid of all the rust.

Compared to this mess, I feel that was the easy part.

All those pictures of rust will keep me awake tonight! Here in the desert (Tempe, AZ) it is rare to even see surface rust.

On rare occasions in the wrecking yards here one pops up with rust, but it didn't get that disease here!

On the other hand, the sun beats the crap out of anything not made of metal. Plastic, paint, rubber get hammered.

Window tinting, seat covers and garages are popular ways to defeat the sun.

I'll take a sun-baked car over a rusty one any day of the week. This thing is giving me nightmares as well.

I'm really glad i didn't have to deal with those pedestals on my car. Looks about as fun to deal with as i imagined it to be.

Remade the pedestal. Quite the task making something out of nothing. Hopefully all the measurements and guesswork pays off.

Still a little finishing work to do, as well as weld on the captured nuts and fill in the drilled out spot welds.

That looks great!

Things have been at a standstill lately. The plan has been to install the pedestal I made to verify the frame bolts in all the right places before I make the shim plate. However, I decided to hit the easy button.

Sammy @ National Moparts hooked me up with this pedestal. The floor was rotted in this car, but the pedestal is solid.

And after drilling out the spot welds. This will save me alot of time and guesswork. Going to soak it in some Evapo Rust this weekend.

For what it's worth, here it is side by side with the piece I made. It looks like my pedestal was pretty close. It's good to know I was in the ball park at least.

Not much progress. Into the busy season, but here's the latest progress.

The corner of the inner rocker had a bit of Rot, so further back, the onion is peeled. Fortunately, the rest of the rocker that came with the pedestal is the gift that keeps on giving.

It's in really nice shape. Other than the floor, that should hopefully wrap up the rot repair. And the steel underneath on the car is in really good shape, fortunately.

That's as far as I got. I cut some of the floor away to make up a patch for around the e-brake cable hole thingy, but I'm still working on that. More to come later.
