Some years back, I purchased a voltage regulator from J.C. Whitney that upgraded the point type used with the grounded brush alternator with a solid state regulator. I have not been able to locate any of these improved style regulators now. Does anyone here know if any of that type are still available or do I need to convert over to a later style alternator and regulator like was used from 1970 and afterwards. The old original point type regulators I had were a pain and usually failed after a year or so.; the solid state one was a huge improvement. With the cover on, it looked identical to the point type.
Thanks for any info and Happy New Year to all.

Many replacement regulators for the old point type are electronic. I bought one from NAPA years back. Just look at the back. No coils, it's electronic.
