GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) -- A crash on Dodge Park Boulevard in Gresham killed two people and injured a third on Tuesday afternoon.

Multnomah County deputies responded to the fatal crash near Southeast 302nd Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

Battalion Chief Jason McGowan with Gresham Fire confirmed 70-year-old Arden L. Olsen of Gresham, and 76-year-old John E. Stewart, also of Gresham, were in the green 1968 Dodge and died at the scene.

McGowan said another person received minor injuries, but refused to be taken to the hospital and cooperated with investigators.

Chopper video shows a white CareFree van smashed into the side of the green Dodge.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office thinks skid marks that begin at a nearby stop sign and end at the wreck came from the Dodge possibly speeding up before the crash. Neighbors told KOIN 6 News it's not uncommon to see drivers speeding in the area.

"They just hightail it, so you hear a lot of racing," neighbor Katrina Llona

Llona saw the police activity and was worried something was happening at nearby East Orient Elementary School, where her kids go. She thinks with schools so near, people should be more careful.

"Maybe a bigger warning that there is a school there," she said. "One, two, three schools in this close proximity so I want to make sure our kids are safe."

Sad. My guess is that the driver of the Charger lost control and spun in front of the van.

Rotten luck, two older guys out cruising in their Mopar and bam, it's over. Middle of the afternoon, dry pavement. You never know, that's why you don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy every moment.

That sucks. It's pretty easy to lose it with too much foot when you are young with fast reflexes, but once you hit 70 the world needs to go slower otherwise bad stuff happens pretty quick. Very sad to see this happen.

It appears as though they did a major burnout prior to the crash and lost control of the car. Some kids never grow up.
