I have been looking for a 69-71 300 coupe project but getting very discouraged. How hard is it to convert the grill and tail lights of a Newport or New Yorker? Has anyone on here attempted?

Also interested to know. Got 69 Newport where i want 300 lights, grill etc.
I think grill, headlights aint problem if find all parts. But rear, not sure if panel is same in all.

What's wrong with a nice Newport or New Yorker?

Yah, that's what I'm thinking.
Everybody wants to make a Roadrunner out of a Satellite so they can say they have a Roadrunner.

Blech! What they should say is: "I destroyed my really cool Satellite, and now have a Roadrunner Clone".:BangHead:

And this is why 300 Hurst parts should never be reproduced. Imagine, thousands of these things running around with the buzz words, "Rare", "1 of XXXX made!", "Date Correct", and "Upgraded!"....

Keep looking guys, plenty of '69 and '70 300 coupes to go around. Not sure about '71, but a member here just dragged one out of a barn.

The thing about a "tribute" car IMO is that its fine if your redoing an worn out old driver into your dream car, but I do hate to see anything nice and original chopped up... and most of those seem to become "flips"

don't get me started on my dislike of rat rods...

Imo Hurst is ugly. Tail spoiler... also white and brown is so plain.
But i just like wide taillights and hidden headlights. At Finland, there is like 100 C-body convs, but only few 2d HT´s. Everybody says conv are rare, but still you see them everywhere. :)

That's easy. When going car shopping in NA you guys like to cherry pick the nicest/rarest cars. That selection process results in more ragtops going east. My theory anyway.

That could be. Like last summer at Finland here was for sale -69 pilot 300 conv. Pilot stamps all over parts and Newport/New Yorker style front bumber...

On your question, I've seen it done, and at a time thought about doing it to my Newport. Why? I like the grill and taillights of the 300 better.

BUT!!!

The VIN would till state the car to be what it is. Also, if you change the grill to that of a 300, you had better get the bumper as well - the signal lights on a 300 are in the grill, not below, in the bumper, as on the other two.

There are also interior differences: door panels, seats, glove box, etc.

I once saw a '65 New Yorker convertible. Yep, it was black and it had the NY grill and call-outs. But, I knew instantly that it was a Newport - there were no NY 'verts after 1961. A clone is always that.

I gave serious thought to doing just that since I had all the parts necessary from my parts New Yorker, just to have a one-of-none New Yorker 4 speed convertible.
