353 Detroit?

I oddly don't have a problem with this at all, can't argue with 50 mpg!

While we enjoy this, there are guys on FBBO that are :elmer::mad::BangHead::mob::soapbox:
Good.

That really makes me want to put a 4BT in a formal.

Actually there's a Ramcharger just down the road a piece that's been forsale for over a year now. Has something to do with Richard Petty from what the sales goon tried to tell me. Nearest I can see maybe he sat in it and autographed the glove box. Hell prolly not even his autograph. Anywho, I told them when the consignor finally gets desperate, gimmie a call. And a 4BT is exactly what I plan for it should it end up here.

There isn't anything on the planet more efficient at converting diesel fuel into noise than 53 series Detroit.

3 53 = 159 CID 100hp @ 2800 and 200 ft/lbs of torque @ 1800 RPM. Not much power but at least it sounds like it's trying. An underwhelming driving experience I'm sure.

The ship I was on in Navy the back up diesel generator was a pair of 16/71 on each end of a generator, one spun clockwise the other counterclockwise. The 4, 8/71 blowers were about 4 1/2' off the deck and you could stand right next to it running at about 1600 rpm wow what a sound with a full electric load on it.

A buddy has a shrimp boat with a 671. The sound of the motor running at about 1500 rpm, and the inboard drive together, make a noise that could put a raging bull elephant to sleep.

353 Detroit's engine are a monster. A lot of torque and will run with 3 PSI of oil pressure.

We had them in M561's.....couldn't blow the damn thing up.....ever!

The aircraft power unit's that we used in the Airforce had a Detroit in them. I don't know what model but they were supercharged looked like 4-71's on them
