+50 killed...+500 injured in Vegas

All I can say is that if someone is willing to die for their malicious and evil deeds there pretty much no stopping them. Sure you can shoot them if in fact you are right there and your armed but the element of surprise is usually in their favor. Especially in light of where this occurred. and to think that this jack wad is even a pilot with his own plane !!!!!! OMG the what could of been !!!!!!! :soapbox: :mob::soapbox:
When the investigation is complete I'm guessing there will be a medical file somewhere with a diagnosis of bi-polar or some other kind of psychotic condition. I agree that all of these incidents can't be stopped but there are some common sense steps that could be taken to minimise them. And no you don't have to undermine the 2nd Amendment to take those steps.

Well lets hope that there is some sort of records and that this is not some kind of obscure inside job where files and or documents go missing or deleted :BangHead::soapbox:

OH CRAP I WENT THERE !!!!! DIDN'T I !!!!! :poke:

A friend who is much more into the "web" than I showed some pics that have supposedly been leaked out from inside the hotel room. (Some quite gory.) One of them showed a handwritten note.

But then again, I could probably photoshop the whole thing, even at my remedial level.

I really haven't watched "official" coverage... is any of that out there?

A very sad event and my full sympathies to the families involved. I feel there is way more to this than one lone crazy gunman. Already there is videos online showing muzzle flash coming from lower levels of the hotel. In footage from a taxi's onboard camera ( posted on youtube) you can clearly hear gunfire and the subsequent echo's from more than one location . The cab later drives through the Mandalays drop off area and can't believe there is no panic. The cab leaves and then the main continuous gunfire begins from the building above. The leaked pictures from the hotel room also look very staged, the tatoo is missing from the guys neck etc. It is hard to figure out which news sources are trust worthy these days. There appears to be a very sinister agenda being played out behind the scenes here.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and families of those involved, I don't have all the answers, but someone that is hell bent on killing a large amount of people will find another way if tougher gun laws are put in place. I support my 2nd amendment right and I am a gun owner, I trained my boy's in safe handling, shooting and gun care. We enjoy sport shooting and hunting, in my area most everyone owns at least one gun, I have 4 and my oldest has 3, my youngest doesn't have any, but enjoys shooting ours.

Unfortunately, the missing friend was indeed killed. Very sad.

SoCal woman, reported missing after Vegas concert, killed in massacre
I am so sorry to hear that.

I want to do something too, but I don't think there is anything that can be done to prevent this. Unless we restrict peoples movements like a police state, a somewhat stealthy person will continue to be able to move around with whatever cargo freely in this country.
I am aware of and agree with what your saying Doug. My definition and understanding of an assault weapon may be deferent then another's. I'm also aware that nothing will be done to curtail these types of attacks. It's just frustration that makes me feel helpless with the need to vent. I don't have answers, no one else seems to either. Just a lot of opinions, which will lead us no where.
As a Viet Nam Vet I am familiar with M16's, AR1's, M60's and AK47's and what their capability's are. I don't think there is a place in our society for them or any weapon like them.
My thought is that this is a forum for car guys who share a common automotive interest, Not a political, (or religious), forum. There are other forums to take those discussions. Sometimes things are posted that makes one feel compelled to respond to and which has nothing to do with the purpose of the site.
What happens is that opinions are strong and judgement's are made towards others based on those opinions instead of the "what is your preference" in C body's, or cars in general.
I'm done with the political crap here.
Thank you Will, I have never handled a weapon with a high capacity magazine nor anything that could be fully automatic. I have no use and see no practical use for the guns you mentioned.

When I said earlier that I was not prepared to argue 2nd amendment, I meant it literally... I do like the idea that I have the ability to own a firearm if I choose to do so. I have no problem with any restrictions on automatic weapons, assault rifles or high capacity clips... other than I would be concerned of how far that momentum would take us to removing my right to own a revolver or shotgun or legitimate hunting rifle should I choose to.

You are right, I'm burning out on the political themes too... I've been enjoying a nice flu and fever for the last several days and I suppose that has given me too much time to think about this crap...

I think I'll lay my thoughts to rest for a while after this...

Thank you, I agree this wasn't something that would be easy to prevent unless somebody spotted the weapons. If there was a gun show in town that week, he could have blended in easily. It was legal for him to possess and bring the guns to his room, and not the hotel's responsibility to stop him. The only thing illegal I am aware of is the fully automatic conversion and there would be no reasonable way to spot that.

Conspiracy theories tend to annoy the crap out of me, maybe one will prove out here, but I don't see it right now.

The best prevention I could give, would be to stop plastering this crap on the TV and internet... and that's not going to happen, so the next one will have this all to use as "inspiration".

When these things happen, I won't read about them or give much attention until all the hysteria dies down. People are still frantic looking for answers and emotions to raw to get a good report imo. No news source should ever be trusted They all want attention and will do anything for it.

It is hard to make sense of all the different information out there but sometimes Snopes helps put rumours into perspective.
FACT CHECK: Did a Second Gunman Shoot From the Fourth Floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel?

I know that I do not totally trust them ........

Do You Trust Snopes? You Won't After Reading This.
No worries I'm a sceptic by nature and don't completely trust any internet source including Snopes. My general approach is to look at the evidence available determine on the balance of probabilities what happened. Given the consistent debunking of the GMO threat by Snopes I'm not surprised that Food Babe attacks them. Of course you trust Food Babe which has no agenda ...

I'm not saying that I completely buy into what this guy has to say, but he's done a bunch of research.

Dear John,

On Monday I made this bold statement BEFORE anyone else in the word did.

"Let me make a bold statement here: When the medical authorities complete their autopsy and blood chemistry on the Las Vegas mass murderer, THE WILL FIND PSYCH DRUGS in his system and tissues.

Bold statement? Not really. EVERY MASS SHOOTER SINCE COLUMBINE HAS BEEN ON PSYCH DRUGS!"

Today, here is the proof from FOX News , just as I predicted:

Las Vegas gunman reportedly was prescribed anti-anxiety medication in June
Stephen Paddock, the gunman who opened fire on a crowd at a country music concert on the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday, was prescribed an anti-anxiety drug in June, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The paper, citing records from the Nevada Prescription Monitoring Program, reported Tuesday that Paddock was prescribed 50, 10-milligram diazepam tablets by a physician on June 21. The brand name of the drug is Valium. The report said the drug could trigger aggressive behavior.

Authorities investigating the mass killing may look to a "psychological autopsy" to try to uncover what led Paddock to open fire into a crowd at a country music concert.

Jim Clemente, a retired FBI profiler, said in an interview that if Paddock's suicide did not destroy his brain, experts could find some kind of neurological disorder or malformation.

"The genetics load the gun, personality and psychology aim it, and experiences pull the trigger, typically," Clemente said. He pointed out that Paddock's father -- a bank robber -- was diagnosed a psychopath.

Clemente speculated that there was "some sort of major trigger in his life -- a great loss, a breakup, or maybe he just found out he has a terminal disease."

Investigators work at a festival grounds across the street from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, in Las Vegas. Authorities said Stephen Craig Paddock broke windows on the casino and began firing with a cache of weapons, killing dozens and injuring hundreds at the music festival on Sunday. New York forensic psychiatrist James Knoll in 2008 described a "psychological autopsy" as a procedure that originated in 1958 that "involves a thorough and systematic retrospective analysis of the decedent's life, with a particular focus on suicide risk factors, motives, and intentions."

Paddock, armed with nearly two dozen guns, fired down from his room on the 32nd floor at the Mandalay Bay Rsort and Casino into a crowd of 22,000 people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. He killed at least 59 and injured over 500 in about 11 minutes.

Paddock had no known criminal record, and public records showed no signs of financial troubles, though he was said to be a big gambler.

His brother, Eric Paddock, said he was at a loss to explain the massacre. "No affiliation, no religion, no politics. He never cared about any of that stuff," the brother said outside his Florida home.

The FBI dismissed early on the possibility of a connection to international terrorism, even after the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Eric Paddock said his brother did show a confrontational side at times: He apparently hated cigarette smoke so much that he carried around a cigar and blew smoke in people's faces when they lit up around him.

Authorities have been talking with Paddock's girlfriend Marilou Danley, 62, who was out the country at the time of the shooting, but returned to the U.S. from the Philippines on Tuesday night.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said he was "absolutely" confident authorities would find out what set off Paddock.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
