Just acquired a parts car which was a 4 speed car and still had the pedal assembly in it. After removing it I found an extremely heavy duty spring and pin which I guessed where they went back together. Moving the clutch pedal back and forth with the spring installed as pictured it both pulled the pedal up into the up position and while the pedal is pushed downward it all of a sudden snaps the pedal down into the down (to the floor) position. Is this correct? Seems really strange to me.

It will do that without being mounted and having a master cylinder in place, it travels too far. Once in the car the master cylinder will stop it travelling too much.

If you end up using that in a car, and choose to go with a diaphragm clutch, like a Centerforce, the spring comes off and goes in your spare parts box.

Master cylinder?? I am speaking of the clutch pedal having this spring which is effecting the travel of the pedal in an odd way (Pulling the pedal in both directions).

What about a stock clutch assembly? With the force that the spring snaps the pedal to the floor past about the half way travel point it would seem to assis in disengaging the clutch and have to be manually pulled back from the floor. Do I have it installed correctly?

Once you have it installed with the stock Borg and Beck setup,

that spring will have a lot of resistance applied to it. As noted previously, it is not required with a diaphragm style.
