i have a 1966 chrysler newport convertible that i’m going to be replacing the floor pans and carpet but i’m looking online for carpet and some say it won’t fit the convertible, is there any difference between 4door/2door carpet and convertible carpet or is that bs?

The only company making molded carpet in the US is Auto Custom Carpet (ACC). All the listings of molded carpet are ACC supplied.

As far as I know, the only difference in 2 door versus convertible carpet is the length of the carpet under the rear seat. If you look at a 2 door, the rear seat bottom has square front corners that cover that area and the convertible seat is both narrower and rounded so the carpet under that area shows. (first picture, not my car).

That said, when I put the new carpet in my '65 300L, the back was cut long enough for a convertible (mine is a 2dr hardtop) (second picture, my car).

What I suggest is you call Stock Interiors, a vendor I've had good luck with and I understand is "hooked up" with ACC. They may be able to help. Auto Carpet for Car, Truck, Van - Stock Interiors

Big John I wanted to ask you if you went with the nylon loop or 80/20?, and did you get extra backing or poly?

And for the carpet tip I learned that I give out to everyone. Use an old soldering iron to make the holes for dimmer switch, seats, and seat belts. About a million times easier and no stray threads to catch.

Also leave it big, let it sit a day or two, preferably in the sun, before doing the final trimming.

I was checking into headliner material at same place, mine was completely removed so Im not sure which was there. They offer several different types, I dont believe it was vinyl, maybe cotton. I think I have six bars. Any idea what should be the proper material to order for head liner?

First, always get samples.

Like ACC, almost all the headliners are made by Acme in Long Beach, CA. Get a sample and see what looks good.... or... SMS also makes headliners and they use correct material. Of course, SMS is more expensive and takes a little longer. I bought the headliner for my '65 Barracuda from SMS. It took a couple weeks longer than promised, but not all that bad. It's perfect though and matched the original. I tried Acme and they had nice stuff, but nothing like the original.

So, always get samples (that includes carpet too) first and decide what you want. Acme will be cheaper and probably won't take as long, but it won't be correct. So your choice.

I bought my carpet through Legendary Interiors. Had to cut it a bit, but that was expected.

Time is not a concern for me at this point, Im just looking for as close to OEM as possible with ease of installation as this is new to me. My 300 was originally olive over gold with green interior. I was going to change to all black top and interior but Ive only seen one gold/green combo in a 4 dr, plus my seats and door skins are in really good shape so I am going back original, Ive seen several black over golds, if I ever get to carlisle Ill be different! Thanks for the tips.

I got mine through Legendary as well, with the extra backing option. It was pure hell to install. Heated the crap out of it to strech it as best possible. Was an all day affair, but my buddy and I got it in.
We ran into an issue with the forward piece... it was cut too short on the right side of the car to allow for the driver foot area to line-up correctly with the gas pedal and floor board. if we left it as it was, the foot pad area would have rolled up on to the transmission hump. So we cut the carpet in half and focused on fitting it correctly on both sides for a really nice looking fit. Because I have a center console you can't notice it. Was very odd.. it simply did not line-up out of the box.

But it's in and looks great! I'm very happy with the product.... bought the extra carpet and had the console done locally, next are the lower doors and kick-plates.

Wow! I didn't experience that at all.

I think I got a bad piece. As soon as we put it in we noticed it. I had bought it a year ago so there was no returning it. We made it work. You can't tell
Bet it was for a B body and some guy with a Roadrunner was cussing because his front carpet was so big.

LMFAO!!! I'll bet your right. there was something odd about the fit, like it just wasn't right. we got it to work... but I think you're right.
