I have a 1971 New Yorker and I was interested in determining if the car was a sure-grip or a 1 legger. So I jacked the rear off the ground placed jackstands underneath placed the car in neutral, marked the drive shaft aswell as the rear tire at the 12 position after one full rotation of the tire the drive shaft rotated 2 and 3/4 turns and both wheels were rotating in the same direction..is it safe to say 2.76 sure-grip rear..I looked for #s on the rear axel but have difficulty locating anything I can make out..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ..thanks

Sure sounds like it to me.

There should be a small metal tag on one of the bolts that secures the center section to the housing. That tag should have the ratio on it

Nice pics of your car by the way. Why a sure grip on such a rear end ratio?
Was this a common practice?
