(2) Marketplace - 1972 Dodge Dodge Monaco | Facebook

For discussion purposes, this car has a fresh and somewhat sloppy repaint. The exhaust manifolds appear to be the log type, not expected on a '72 high performance. Also missing the heat stove and the flex tube. After market master cylinder. Most '72 cruisers were still running red warning lights. Radar unit appears period correct. My recollection is that most '72 440 engines in cruisers also still had the dual snorkel air cleaner, painted red. Some '73 440 engines had the single snorkel red air cleaner with a flapper valve in the base that opened for full throttle application. Also wonder about the steering wheel that lacks a horn ring.

Documented, numbers matching original, meticulously restored with period correct equipment I'm guessing will fetch top dollar. That is top dollar asking price but how much would it cost to find an original and restore it to that condition? It is in Russell Ontario so I'm assuming that's Canadian dollars. One heck of a nice police car.

Nice. Lots of work. Would love to see pics of what they started with..

I guess finding my heart stove IS a big deal...

Might the "DL" VIN designation explain a standard steering wheel, without "Partial Horn Ring"?

The horn ring that was full circumference was part of the special order police option package(s). My recollection is that the partial horn ring was standard if the full ring was not ordered. Without access to the build sheet it is anybody's guess what was spec'd for this particular vehicle as the ordering agency had wide leeway if the order was large enough.

Before I finalized that post, I consulted the 1972 Police and Taxi brochure at www.hamtramck-historical.com. It listed the "Horn Ring - Partial" as standard on the police-spec Polaras. Whereas the normal Dodge C-bodies did not have any horn ring for any steering wheel, which the car in question, with its "DL" Polara VIN model designation, indicates it started life as a base Polara rather than a police spec "DK" Polara. FWIW

Yet . . . when looking at the build sheet and additional pictures on the Facebook listing, there is a Certified speedometer shown. The build sheet has the "DL41" model designation, but lower down in a space used for additional comments, it has "North Carolina Police". Which raises the question of the use of "DL" rather than "DK" and still getting a certified speedometer on a non-"DK" car?

Happy Holidays,

True, but DL and DM Polaras could have the police options added. Some agencies did not order the DK package cruisers but instead built their own cruisers on the DL and DM platform. Who ever ordered this cruiser probably ordered the police options on a line by line basis which would explain the lack of the horn ring because they did not order it. In that case, you are correct.

I am not sure if this is actually the same car but I remember an ebay listing from 20 years ago that very similar. Same story and colour combo. I didn't save it to my computer and that is just from memory but back then I seem to recall it selling for $11,500...which was big money at the time. Seemed worth it.

Thank you. @robio @amazinblue82 @MrMoparCHP @polara71 @71Polara383 and others will be sure to comment on PL41U2F176269

late to the commentary. all been said.

$30K is a bit tall (not dissing the car .. its truly outstanding) for any Mopar squad of the "low" compression era ('72 & up). I believe you gotta climb well (enough) into the $20's on this car though.

Still, at whatever $$ it transacts at, I hope it finds a good home with an appreciative new owner
