Obviously illegal does not fix it either. You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make him drink it. I think there are many people who go down a destructive path, and no laws or wake of disaster's that follow them, they will never stop till "it"has the final say. There are also many functioning alcoholics. Why because they self medicate, and have found a equilibrium. I believe the same is true of drug use, if they had access to a standardize dosing I believe the overdose's would slow, from what I see the largest part are accidental (took the same amount as always, but too much fentanyl). I do not prescribe too this way of life or do I recommend it.That **** ruins people’s lives and legalization doesn’t fix it a bit
pretty much established historical fact that the East India Company brought in the opium and later the government took direct control. No conspiracy theory.
San Francisco is already a test bed for your idea. The streets are festooned with tents, **** and needles that were supposed to be exchanged. Junkies are not productive citizens.
To be clear legalized, I'm forAlso the Seattle area, they chose to enable, now they have placed that burden on the taxpayers.
To be clear legalized, I'm for
Welfarized , I'm not for
Not a status quo no. But blanket legalization wont work either. Some drugs can be legalized yes and the money typically spent on drug enforcement programs etc can instead be used for rehabilitation, same as with Alcohol Abuse. Thanks for your thoughtful reply but are you advocating for the status quo? It seems that prospect of maintaining the "war on drugs" is the equivalent of relying on the Darwin Effect to take care of the problem.
I know we are getting way off topic here but actually outside of a few exceptional cases that isn't true. I had some long talks with my Dad who was in the German army in WW2. He would get a huge laugh out of the supposedly well researched documentaries on PBS which portrayed the drug addled demonic monsters in the Wehrmacht. His point was that soldiers so poorly disciplined would never have made it through the Maginot Line. Leaving aside the successful application of Blitzkrieg the truth is at the start of the war the Germans had absolutely the best trained most disciplined soldiers on the planet and their military success had nothing to do with drugs. He related many stories where that training saved his life. Towards the end of the war the new recruits were not getting the same quality training. One time he was leading a patrol outside Leningrad with one other experienced soldier and a few new recruits. They came under mortar fire and by the sound my dad immediately identified the type as one that rebounds and fires shrapnel horizontally and down. The new recruits all hit the ground and died while he and his experienced buddy remained standing and survived albeit with shrapnel wounds in their lower legs. It wasn't drugs that accounted for their early success.Their soldiers were high on drugs.
Dammit, I was watching that. I got interrupted and did not get far.The German soldiers didn't sleep for five days, were totally fearless in the face of the opposing armies/ While this was being discussed they showed German soldiers carrying supplies across a river on a bridge, there were geysers of water shooting up higher than the bridge right next to them and the Germans didn't flinch, didn't change pace, it was as if it was a calm quiet saunter. That one image made me wonder a lot about how the hell they could be so brave, it was explained later as the program went on, the soldiers were all issued with tablets to be taken every day, they were taking Meth!
It dawned on me right then how they were able to take on so many countries and conquer so much territory over the first three years of conquest. Their soldiers were high on drugs

Portugal legalized all drugs a number of years ago ( cant remember how many) But they followed this path in their country and now have the lowest amount of drug addiction of any developed country in the world. Not eliminated its true. But no one will ever do that.
Ultimately the problem needs to be looked at from a pragmatic view, are we ever going to stop people drinking alcohol? Nope, Are ever going to stop people from smoking cigarettes? No. Most of the drugs available today, typically weed and cocaine has been around since the dawn of civilization, it isn't going to go away.
Plenty of people in all levels of society take drugs, as an example many surgeons will take cocaine. Why? It sharpens your attention, makes you more focused and more accurate. It's why many high level, high pressure jobs have a ready supply of this stuff, it's just not talked about.
Me personally, I wont ever do drugs , I don't smoke and I don't drink alcohol. But I recognize that plenty others do and will always do so too.
AS an aside, I was watching a history program about the start of World War Two and how the German Army blew through Belgium and into France, wiping every thing before them in a five day campaign that shocked the world.
