The fender tag certainly confirms the odd color combo. Whether special ordered or a factory mistake is unknown.
As someone who has almost 30 years of experience with 68 Furys I would have some concerns about the body and paint work. Not a big deal but the trunk finish panel is the incorrect color for a Fury III with white body side moldings. It should have silver paint in the upper and lower areas. The dark argent was only used with dark argent colored body side moldings and on VIP's, which were different with a brushed aluminum applique along the center area.
The lower rear quarters appear to have had body work done. The right lower rear quarter panel appears to lack any contour and may have been repaired with a patch panel. No under-hood or trunk area restoration. Someone took the cheap road on the paint and body work by skipping these areas.

I wonder how many workers said WTF and double checked the sheet as this car came down the line.
That still bugging you?Same could be said about that 392 mile NYB... I can't imagine what that Dove Gray looked like with a black St. Regis roof!!!

Yep!... and that's not dove grey! That is silver. I don't have a problem with that... its the combo of a non metallic grey (Dove Grey) that bugs me with the black St. Regis roof that strikes me as odd. I've loved the NYB's forever... but that combo just doesn't do it for me.
