Fan Shroud Questions

i have what I think is a shroud for a 65 22” radiator. I also have a mounting kit for the same.
“We have a problem Huston”

For the life of me I can’t figure out how to mount this to the rad. I’m thinking it’s the wrong shroud.

Unless things changed, my brothers 66-300 with a 22" didn't have a shroud when he got it and he was 2nd owner. I'm sure the 65 folks that know more can/will answer.
 
The 22" shroud was used in AC, Trailer Tow and High Altitude / Hi Capacity Cooling options in 65. In 66 all that changed to 26" rads... but apparently they used up the 22" stuff as they got the 26" package going - one can still find 66 C bodies originally equipped with 22" rads and shrouds. It's also possible that shrouds were installed on 1966 C body cars when owners added dealer installed AC and trailer tow packages.

Regarding mounting, there should be two nuts captured in the slots roughly midway up the side straps of the rad to which specially formed brackets bolt to.

The ends of the two halves of the shroud nest together and bolt to the brackets.

I have two 65-66 22" C body specific rad shrouds and they are different from B body ones, and additionally, those brackets you have are most definitely NOT correct.

Both the correct C body shroud and brackets are hard to find... be sure they're correct as they won't allign to the fan properly otherwise.

Somewhere at home I may have some rad shroud images, but you need to give me some time.
 
The shroud 'appears' correct from that one image, but the mounts are not. You may be able to contrive something but it won't be a factory original configuration.
 
Looks like the correct shroud to me. But just know that if your radiator doesn't have the cage nuts in it already, the "straps" will have to be removed from the radiator and put back with them in place. That's what I'm about to go through. No big deal. Any competent radiator shop can do it.
 
The nuts can be "twisted" into place without removing and resoldering the straps...

Keep in mind that the mounting holes are likely what makes the actual shroud pieces different... not a big deal...

I've tried with mine. No bueno. Maybe it's just mine but I'd have to cut notches to get them in and I'm just way too particular for that.
 
I have one for a 65 Imp. Cage nuts on my 66 radiator were different location. Then, I bought the Cold Case radiator this spring and have no use for the old shroud, though it could easily be adapted to the old radiator and fan setup. EVERYTHING has to be right for the shroud to fit properly and work. I opted on a $40 16 inch electric pusher fan to supplement my mech 18" clutch fan when the 110 Fahrenheit ambient temperature and city traffic made things toasty. Consequently, Mathilda's plant NEVER got over 210 F this past summer, regardless of evil driving. While I like the design purity of a shroud, a pusher fan sure is an easier fix....

To get the cage nuts into the sides of my rad, on a couple of the holes I had to slightly bend one edge of the hole outward with a slot screwdriver because the nut hit the rad core before it was installed far enough otherwise, and I screwed a long bolt into the nut to use as a handle to help install it.

Interesting. I think I'll give that a try before heading to the radiator shop.
 
Just be careful poking ANYTHING too far into those slots - the rad core is right there and you don't want to poke a hole in any of the tubes. The bolts are very short for that reason - so they don't poke into the core (see the pic).

I have the inserts and bolts. Apparently I’m short of the brackets
 
You can machine an adapter bracket matching the current setup, but be careful how you place your shroud. That WAS my plan before getting my new Cold Case radiator. I might knock up a sheet metal shroud from flashing and aluminum sheet next spring, but my pusher fan renders the need pretty superfluous.
 
TT a buddy today that may have a complete shroud with the brackets. He’ll let me borrow it to mock up brackets. I may go ahead and make some extras for members needing them
