Howdy folks,

I'm currently in the process of saving up some scratch to eventually buy either a '72 Fury sedan or a '72 New Yorker, but I don't exactly come from a line of Mopar enthusiasts, so the knowledge I have is mainly from the internet.
I was wondering if perhaps there's some resources out there which can guide me on how to read fender tags, for when the day comes where both the availability and money exists, I know what I'm looking at. Thanks in advance.

Head over t0 wwwmymopar.com and download a year-appropriate Chrysler Parts Manual. In the "INFO" section is a graphic, on about page 8 or so of that section, which details what areas of the tag are what. That Data Plate format is common among the various Chrysler Corp cars within a given model year.

Then head over to the "Library" section at www.hamtramck-historical.com, head to the brand and model year section of the spreadsheet, click on the "Chrysler" Pentastar (for Chrysler) or the blue and white logo for Plymouth to get to the Sales and Order Guides for that model year. LOTS of basic information in there! Then the Color and Trim Guides for the interior color and trim options. Usually is a paint chip chart in the spreadsheet for each model year, too.

Although the Data Plate has a lot of information on it, it does not include everything. For that, you'll need to find the Build Sheet for the vehicle AND hope the one you find is the one that matches the VIN of the vehicle. Usually under the back seat in the seat springs, or other places on the vehicle.

Enjoy!

Here are guides my stepdad has, but like others have said mymopar.com or Hamtramck historical would work for you. Even us here on the forum too can likely help you, there are some VERY knowledgeable people on here with that type of stuff… me, I’m ok at decodes but I don’t know everything. There are people who know ALOT more than I do.

Here is a website and a youtube video too. Hope these help you out, best of luck….

Broadcast Vin Fender Tag Decoder for Mopar Dodge Chrysler Plymouth

The Galen White Books are invaluable for decoding fender tags. A must if your a Mopar guy.

Most on line decoders are marginally helpful for newbies as they rarely give context, year, make and model or specific plant coding applications.

Better resources for those unfamiliar with make and model codes are the factory Data and Trim books posted in the Hamtramck Historical library or Galen’s white books for a more narrow application and year specific applications an explaintions.

Next is posting on sites like FCBO for specific tag decode and code description.

Hey @regular06 where in Ontario are you?

Don't focus too much on knowing fender tags at this point. You're looking for a couple of specific cars and in Ontario you're not going to find too many of those. When or if you come across any candidates, just post a photo of the tag and VIN here.

One note is that any guides and such at www.hamtramck-historical.com will be for USA produced and sold vehicles. Not (that I have seen) Canadian-specific production vehicles. Just something to consider . . .

Hi, I'm in the Greater Toronto Area. As you can imagine, not many (if any) Fuselage cars exist around here! I'll make sure to send the tag and VIN should I find one.

These websites, especially the hamtramck registry is quite a gold mine. Since it's just for US vehicles I'll just cross my fingers the CADM models don't have any significant differences.
Thanks to all for the help!
