FI pump in tank

you have sparked my curiosity, I have looked at the 68 B body(non charger) tanks on tanks inc and they look almost the same shape with similar sending unit/filler neck locations. I am in the dilemma of setting up a fuel pump system for my new engine currently being built and wanted to do an in tank electric system without a bunch of hassle hence the reason I have been watching this thread. I know tanks inc has a B body with the electric fuel pump already incorporated, are you fairly confident the B body tanks work ok? I measured an extra 66 fury tank I have and it looks to be the same basic dimensions, only about 3.5-4 inches narrower but tank depth and length are basically the same and strap mounting locations should not be affected by the slightly narrower tank. I have just been reluctant to pay $300-400 to test fit and find out it doesnt. lol
No clue on the B Tank, but there are threads covering that. I used the original C tank. interesting that you found them to be the same depth (top to bottom) the B body pickup is in fact a bit different, if the tanks were the same top to bottom the senders, I would think, would be the same too

I just emailed tanks inc and will likely order one of their fuel injection ready tanks to test if they work as long as they will allow a return if it does not and is still new condition. Will post back on this thread if it works. Bonus is the slightly narrower tank would allow for more clearance for the larger exhaust pipes I am having to run as well
 
The down side is that the float is way off, I tried a few different things to make it work but gave up and just wen with what I have
Would running a resistor with the right resistance fix this?
This thread is very promising because I'm definitely keeping my eye on converting my 383 to the sniper EFI, but still on the fence about whether to get the sniper 1 or sniper 2 kit since some other users here have said that it wasn't worth getting the 2 over the 1, while others (like you) say it's absolutely worth it lol. Go figure I guess.
 
Oh right, the way you worded it made it sound like you already tried bending it to no avail, thought it might be able to be fixed with some resistors.
 
Thanks just got a 5.9 magnum installed in the fury and running on the factory EFI yesterday. Have the truck tank sitting in front of the car to make sure I wired it correctly.
 
Hey all, figured I'd give a bit of an update.

The 69 B Body Holley In tank pump does in fact work! Just a little bending of the hard line on the pump to make if sit on the floor of the tank, it picked up fuel with 1/2 gal in it. The down side is that the float is way off, I tried a few different things to make it work but gave up and just wen with what I have, full tank shows 2/3 full, when on E it has ~5 gals in it. Good enough.

I installed the Sniper 2 and today was the first time I got it out on the road. SO much better than the original Sniper 1, WAY WAY better. More power, smoother, easier starts etc etc.

My 383 is bascially stock, Mild cam, Weiand dual plane intake and HP exhaust manifolds into 2.5 inch TTI exhaust. I used the original 5/16 hard fuel lines from the rear up to the cross member, then went to a filter and then 3/8 soft line up the firewall to the TB, no return line since the in tank pump has the bypass. Zero issues. When kicking on the AC the sniper just handles the idle kick without any other connection to the AC.
Thinking more about this option. Is the pressure regulator adjustable?
 
I need between 35-45 at idle. This is a bone stock 5.9 magnum out of a 95 truck. I using all the factory wiring and pcm to run it along with the OD trans. To test run had to use the truck fuel tank.

Currently the regulator is in the tank. You are correct it looks like my only option is going to be a return line from external regulator.
 
Any updates on using a B-body tank??
The tanks inc B-body fuel injection ready tank just showed up. First glance next to another 66 fury tank I have it looks very very promising that I will be able to directly swap the B body tank in with it being a little narrower. I will have some more free time tomorrow to take some closer measurements and set them side by side before going through the trouble of draining the gas out of my current tank and attempting to bolt it up for a final check. :thumbsup:


looking at the tanks next to each other I'm about 99% sure I can make this B-body tank work great. As I was hoping the filler neck location in proximity to the driver side of the tank is where the narrower width is made up which appears to be almost exactly the front factory tank corner cutout area for exhaust routing(should provide slightly more room for exhaust routing on driver side along the frame). Filler neck angle into the tank looks to be almost exactly the same as well. The depth of the new tank is just slightly less so I can place a thicker rubber mat between the tank and the underside of the trunk where it mounts to if needed to drop it down to the same mounting height for filler neck positioning. See pics for reference next to a factory 66 fury tank. It will be a few weeks until installed as I have to get the internal fuel pump, sending unit, and parts to plumb everything in to have ready once I get the tank in place. I will upload pics of the finished install once done
