So I've been redoing and selling Chevy's for a bit now. Yesterday, I bought my first Plymouth. A 1966 sport fury III convertible with a 383 magnum. I'll post some pics when I make it to a computer. But for now, I'm looking for some help on the restore.

Where to shop for parts, suggestions on color choices (original or custom), etc.

I look forward to hearing from y'all, and thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard. The 66 Fury convertibles are my favorite C-body. I prefer the stock look on these myself including the fender skirts. As for color choices, personally I prefer colors that were offered for the year make and model of the car even if its not the original color of the car. Looking forward to seeing pictures of yours.

Well my brain says to go with the fender tag and put her original (gold on gold with a gold top). My eye however finds that scheme terribly bland for the lines of the vehicle.

I see some shade of blue or red with a white top and possibly some sort of stripe along that trim line.

Another idea, how "sacrilegious" would it be to go with one of those more striking mopar colors (ie. Plum crazy) that was never remotely intended for the vehicle?

Here's what she looks like as of right now.

Welcome, first off it is either a Sport or a III, not both.

Triple gold is not a good combo, i see your problem

Welcome aboard! Nice car. I think you have a good idea with the plum crazy color with the white top. With that combo, a set of TT's would set it right off.

Welcome to the site from the Motor City! Nice car, I like the color that it is currently. Please not purple!

The Fury looks to be in good shape. While I love the color Plum Crazy. I don't think it looks good on every car. Which to me the Fury doesn't lend itself well to that color. But it's your car and I say do what makes you happy. Although the color it is now with a white top and white interior would look really good.

Grats on joining the Mopar brotherhood.

Are you sure you decoded that fender tag correctly, or are you sure its the correct fender tag for the car? I ask because in 66 the only color options for the convertible top were black, white and blue. Also the car appears to be painted the 1966 color of dark turquoise metallic which I've never seen on a Plymouth convertible. It would be a surprising color choice for someone to switch do a color change to. If the dark turquoise color is original to the car, than its a pretty rare color for a Fury convertible. Once you get into it, I'm guessing you'll find the original color in hard to see places like under the carpet, inside the doors and quarter panels or top well, under the hood and in places in the trunk.
If your car has the shifter mounted on a console, it is most likely a Sport Fury, If it has a column shift it is most likely a Fury III. But of course a previous owner may have modified it at some point.
I like plum crazy purple, but I think it would look out of place on a mid 60's car. A light purple metallic was available on the 66 Plymouths. If you do stray from the 1966 color choices, I would stay within a couple model years for the color choices. There was a beautiful one year only Medium Turquoise Metallic (Surf Turquoise Metallic) in the 1968 model year. The 68 Surf Turquoise color was a bit more appealing than the 66-67 Dark turquoise color.

As for the color it is, that paint job is one of the worst I've ever seen in person. So it will definitely need a respray. The color code is ZZ01. I found out that it was citron (?) Gold on gold interior. Every fury convertible I found online that was gold on gold had a gold top so I assumed.

One thing to keep in mind is I build these cars to sell. Everything I've ever learned tells me original is worth more. I guess I'm really trying to decide what mopar guys like yourselves would appreciate more.

If its for resale, the more original the better. Definitly stay within the 1966 model year color chart if you choose to change colors. Red is done a bit too often. There are several color combinations that look great on these early C-body convertibles. Alot have them have already been repainted red. I would choose a different color rather than red to stand out from the crowd. Some combinations that I think look especially good on a 66 Fury convertible include: Silver with red interior, black with red interior, Midnight blue with blue interior, canary yellow with black, tan, or citron interior, turbine bronze with black interior, white with red interior (citron interior would work on a white car too), medium copper metallic with black or tan interior and Lilac with white interior.
I wouldn't blame you for not going back to Citron. Thats not one of my favorite colors for 66. A light gold would have been fine, but Citron was gold with a greenish tint to it.

Been There, done that. I am not a fan of Gold either (regal or otherwise). I like the turquoise and white, but I am a little biased.
