Yes, he stayed, he was only 16 at the end of the war. He lived in Köln, same place I was born. My mom is from Bavaria. We came over in '56. If you can see, the banner above the windshield says "Schiffer - Köln". He met her on one of his trips.

Where in Bavaria was your Mom from? I lived in Augsburg for 8 years.

Augsburg is really nice! Why did you leave?

LOL! I was in the U.S.Army.......

Uncle Sam said the entire U.S. Army 7th Corps (175,000 troops) had to go after the Wall came down. We had 330,000 U.S. troops in Europe in the late 1980's early 1990's.

Today it's less than 46,000 U.S. troops....

Augsburg is my 2nd home! Loved it there. My Dad's grandparents are from Frankfurt. My Mom's parents and siblings are from Austria. They came to the U.S. in 1932....my Mom was the only one in her family born in the U.S.

Ok, army. I see.

I'm from Frankfurt, but it's not as nice as Augsburg...

I had three big tours in Germany....1st starting in 1977 in Bad Hersfeld with the 12th Armored Calvary Regiment, 2nd time starting in 1980 in Wertheim with 3rd Battalion 35th Field Artillery, and the 3rd time starting in 1984 in Augsburg with 1st Battalion 36th Field Artillery. I was in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, for a year. Left Germany for the last time in 1992 and ended up in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland where I retired in 1996. I was in Thailand in the 1970's for 6 months and Grenada for Operation Urgent Fury.

I was overseas 15.5 years out of the 20 I served.

Never understood Operation Urgent Fury (a name given after the fact).
Please, Bob, don't try to explain it to me now. I am assuming one had to be there...

300 Rag's posts made me look for old pics from my grandpa. Should be taken around 1955 prior to the change to the new black on white plates during 1956. Pic of pic, not the best quality, but I'm at least not selling a car like this. :)

Sounds like a exhausting life. Nothing for me, but the main thing is that you liked it!
