A friend of mine was over last night & we usually talk cars, women or politics. Last night it was cars. He tells me about a 72 Ford Country Squire Wagon sitting in a field in northern Virginia near his home town. He said he knows the guy who owns the car & parked in over a decade ago after it broke down. 460/C6 He thinks it can be bought pretty cheap. So I started encourage him to go get it. He said it's been sitting for years & may be in bad shape. No problem I said. If nothing else we can part it out. Help save others. He said its 5 hours up there. Plus 7 hours back & comming down a mountain towing a BIG HEAVY car. I hope we go get it. I love saving old cars. I love the adventure & the road trip to get to see a part of America I've not yet seen. Wish me luck that I can talk him into it. If he decides he doesn't want it I may buy it

Some people say that about our "C' bodies. Then they look at it for the first time and it grabs your heart, (Just like the women in our lives), and you have to have it. Have a nice trip.

The 460 is a lame duck, big bore sure, but it is low compression and it goes nowhere.

I need a primer on Ford Engines.
351 SB, 351 BB.
427, 428, 429, 430, 460...
Too much. Get dizzy trying to keep the engine families aligned.

wasnt there a 490 as well?
No 490 passenger car engine I ever heard of.
You're thinking of the 390 in the FE series.
E is passenger car.
T is truck.

I got this from Wikipedia, lets see if this helps muddy the waters some more,

[QUOTE="commando1, No Country Squire rotting in a field is worth a 13 hr RT drive. [/QUOTE]

If it were a 57 Country Squire, like my old one, It would be worth the trip....

Well I talked to my buddy. Turns out the Wagon is HIS. It was his dads car & his dad has passed. So he has the tittle. The car has been sitting since 1993. It's sitting on land that my buddy owns. He said he's not sure on the 460. He said the valve covers had a decal saying Ford 429/460. So it may have a 429 in it. He said if he did go get the car he would pull the engine trans out & put in a car & make a hot rod. He also said he didn't think it had the woodgrain sides.

Bad news. He found the title. It's a 78 Mercury wagon. Now he's trying to decode the vin to see if it's a Cougar or Grand Marquis
