No passenger car made today can do this.

Well, it does look like the *** is hanging a tad low.
But if it was like our family hauler, the trunk is probably packed with a ton of vacation gear also.

I had a 73 NYB that I used for a tow car for quite a while. I towed a Drag Star trailer (~1400 lbs) with race car (3050 lbs) The trunk in both cards had floor jack and my big tool box along with whatever else I needed. Always at least one passenger, but often two or three adults with me.

Not as heavy as the boat, but not far behind. Using a equalizer hitch. After dragging that trailer around with a 318, I traded the '68 in for my '70 with a 440. Towing became fun!

Gotta love old C Bodies for towing...
Dad bought the Sport Suburban (Drove 75 miles to the dealer that had it practically across the street from the Chrysler Belvedere assembly plant as the local dealer tried to foist a Satellite wagon with a 360 on him) three years before retirement as he had also bought a 28' Airstream trailer. He ordered the heavy duty towing package (Engine cooling, transmission cooler, axle ratio and suspension) and as soon as it went off warranty 12 months later (It only had 600 miles on it) I put a set of Delco air shocks on it for him. Those shocks still work perfectly. The Sport Suburban was only used for post retirement travel and Mom and Dad put 47,000 miles on it 1977-1999 towing that Airstream to all lower 48 states. Even in the mountains the 400 CID did fine.
These days my Expedition does the heavy hauling but I use the Sport Suburban to deliver customer's restored antique motorcycles... They really appreciate the delivery when the Sport Suburban is the tow vehicle...

My 1970 was ordered to tow this 1966 Mark Twain boat. This photo is from about 1971. The original owner of my car still has the boat, garaged kept since new and Im making every attempt to purchase it.

Great thread! My Imp had a big frame mounted trailer hitch on it when I got it and it would be great to have seen some pics of it in action.

Good thread indeed. My Polara had a hitch welded to the frame and bolted to the bumper. I always wondered what it towed.

Leave it to Bob to take the thread in a different direction.

Imagine my frustration when I discovered my brand new (at the time) '95 Crown Victoria couldn't tow more than 1,500 lbs.

don't forget that the Panther platform of the Crown Vic is a downsized platfirm introduced in '79. The pre-79's could haul big loads. As the pre-77 GMs.

Ellie and I are getting excided about getting on the road in the Admiral and the 19' vintage Concord travel trailer. I'm working hard to have everything road ready for the Garlits show in November. I'm curious to see how the 318 is going to act towing the camper.

If all goes well I'll work on the cosmetics this winter and be standing tall for the "Big Easy" show in New Orleans next march.
