Well, kids, I went to look at that '67 Newport...WTF? The OKC CL ad has pics of the car that are probably five to ten years old. The pics make it look really nice, but it's rough as a cob! I didn't even bother taking pictures of it.

As you can see, the pics don't look half-bad, right? Quotations describe how the seller described the car AS I WAS WALKING AROUND IT! Well, the car was supposedly repainted...again, that had to have been ten to fifteen years ago - "new paint", indeed. The trunk is well-ventilated - "just a little rust, no rust-through" - it was ALL rust-through with the trunk floor! We're talking tennis ball-sized holes, not just pinholes! The carpet "has a couple of holes in it" - try most of the DS front is just plain gone! The headliner "has a tear in it" - the front seam was stitched up by what appears to be the most drunk upholstery guy around, and it needs to be replaced completely. The back seat top is "tore up a little" - no, it is sunburned to the springs! Front seats were "perfect" - yeah, in 1967, they were. The manual windows "work". Well, they WILL work if a guy pulled the door panels and thoroughly lubed the mechanism...they were all stuck shut! The body is "straight as a pin" - except for the dent at the back of the LR quarter panel. And a few hail dings here and there. "The AM radio works, even!" - really? How come nothing is coming out of the speaker, and the tuner knob doesn't tune the radio?
Admittedly, there are a few good things about the car, and even some accurate points by the seller! First, the car started right up from cold and idled beautifully! Nice and smooth, without smoke or noise. The air blows cold, but the fan works only on LO. The dash is pretty nice. Keys work in all the locks and ignition. Doors shut solid. All glass is good. Fluids looked fresh and were all right. No rust in the quarters or the cowl that was immediately visible. The car has a current title and new tag in the seller's name, so the paperwork is good. He has a console in it out of a T-Bird, so the original is long gone.
No way was I willing to trade my Country Squire - in fact, I told him that I'd trade with two grand coming my way, so we just parted ways and left it at that.
If anyone is interested, if you flashed $2,800 in front of the guy, he might take it, but he things his cars are the bomb and people should be beating a path to his little lot. Funny thing is, when I last drove by this guy's lot THREE years ago, he had the very same cars out there for sale! You have my "inspection report", so if any of you go for it, you have an idea what it is.

Very sorry that car didn't work out. You got me all excited about it. BUT, don't worry. There is another one out there for you.
