First a thank you to Craig @mobileparts on the forum. A great supplier of brake and suspension parts, great info and convention.
I have been trying to keep the 68 300 as produced. The car was built with 4 wheel drum brakes. A while back while driving the car, I could hear a grinding from the front wheels. Thinking it was a bad wheel bearing, not wanting to lose a spindle, I parked it.
Finally lifted the front end and shook the wheel, no play, but I could still hear the grinding. Took off the wheel, spun the drum, still that darn noise. Pulled the drum and there it was, the edge of the drum had separated and was rubbing against the shoe (see photo)
While in there, the adjustment spring was pretty much 90% out.
I shouldn’t have to do this again (LOL) Here’s what went in the car: full front,
left and right side, all sourced from Mobilparts.
2 new 11 x3 brake drums
Set of asbestos brake shoes
Front “combo” hardware kit
Left and right front self adjuster kit
Left and right wheel cylinders
Front inner wheel bearings
Front outer wheel bearings
Front inner seals.
