Back in January 2024, I could buy a tin of brand-name ground coffee for $9 CAD (900 grams, about 32 OZ for $6.60 USD). January 2025, $12 ($8.80 USD). Currently, $18 ($13 USD). These are "on sale" prices.

That's a price doubling in the past 1.5 years, 50% increase in the past 6 months.

Has this also happened in the US?

Yep. I buy the 3lb can of Kirkland at Costco and not too long ago it would go on sale for around 13 bucks and the last can I bought was approaching $20.

I just looked at my local Wally World's site. Plain old Folgers priced is reduced over $2 for a 40 oz. container. It is even cheaper than the Wal Mart brand at 35.2 cents/oz compared to 56.7 cents/oz. for the store brand.

For me maybe a dollar more. However, I buy whole beans and grind myself as I prefer French Roast over all others. Black, no cream, no sugar like right now.

It’s definitely gone up recently. Most coffee is imported in 100lb burlap sacks as raw beans. Mainly in the Port of New Orleans. Some also arrives through New Jersey. I’ve heard Tariffs or the threat of Tariffs is to blame. It’s a competitive market. Hard to claim price gouging or fixing. Just the natural effects of uncertainty.
